A new trailer was released January 22 on pop star Taylor Swift's upcoming documentary 'Miss Americana' and features the singer showing a different side of herself. In the docu-film directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Lana Wilson, Swift decides to drop the Ms. Nice Girl persona that people have often labeled her with. 'Miss Americana' premieres on the opening night of 2020's Sundance Film Festival January 23. From its opening night to its close on February 23, the festival will feature 117 films being screened besides 'Miss Americana', according to Deadline.

In the official trailer, the singer reveals, "I became the person everyone wanted me to be". We see shots of Swift revealing how her label executives told her that "a nice girl doesn't force their opinions on people" and "a nice girl smiles and waves and says thank you". The superstar declares further in, "I need to be on the right side of history,” adding, “I feel really good about not feeling muzzled anymore, and it was my own doing”.

'Miss Americana' reveals the transformation of the singer sometimes monikered “America’s Sweetheart” over roughly the last year from ingenue to a performer willing to use her fame as a platform for her beliefs, political and otherwise. The trailer features "home footage" style shots of her everyday living, personal moments, along with backstage and general musical moments, in juxtaposition to her onstage appearances. It also includes media appearances and moments where people have said not-so-friendly things about the pop star.

Having displayed an evident interest in issues of women’s rights, LGBTQ rights and the 2018 midterm elections, 'Miss Americana' reveals an attempt for Swift to become the public person she wants to be.

After its 9:00 p.m. MT debut at Park City’s Ecceles Theater January 23, the documentary produced by the Oscar-winning team of Morgan Neville, Caitrin Rogers and Christine O’Malley will launch worldwide on Netflix January 31.
