Michael Madsen and his family have been incredibly overwhelmed with grief and sadness over the death of his son Hudson Madsen. Madsen wrote in a statement, “I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy - my last text from him was ‘I love you dad’. I didn’t see any signs of depression. It’s so tragic and sad. I’m just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened.”

Hudson Madsen, 26, had recently finished his first mission in the United States Army, where he was a sergeant stationed in Hawaii, and his father said that marriage “was going strong.” The 'Kill Bill' actor recalled, “He had typical life challenges that people have with finances, but he wanted a family. He was looking towards his future, so it's [sic] mind-blowing. I just can’t grasp what happened,” Hollywoodlife reports. The actor, 64, stated that he had requested a complete military investigation. He feels his son was humiliated by other senior officers for needing treatment which caused him to cease seeking care for mental health concerns he had previously kept hidden.

Earlier, the City and County of Honolulu Department of the Medical Examiner reported that the 26-year-old Oahu resident died of a gunshot wound. Madsen's death was reported as a suicide on his death certificate, according to supervising investigator Charlotte Carter. Carter said that the agency does not announce death dates, but a full autopsy report will be accessible to the public in roughly four months, The Sun reports. Meanwhile, Madsen's attorney stated that the actor is doing well and is accompanied by his children, while his wife is making plans to go to Hawaii.

Previously, the Madsen family said in a statement to The Blast, “We are heartbroken and overwhelmed with grief and pain at the loss of Hudson. His memory and light will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. We ask for privacy and respect during this difficult time. Thank you.”

Hudson Madsen is survived by his wife, his father, his mother DeAnna, and his siblings Christian, Calvin, Max, and Luke.
