US singer-songwriter Melanie Martinez has a twofold surprise for fans. Taking to her social media on September 24, the 'Mrs Potato Head' singer announced she is releasing a new music video at midnight on September 24. The new song is titled 'The Bakery' and will feature on her new EP 'After School' which is also set for release on September 25.

"🍦🎂THE BAKERY @ MIDNIGHT EST🎂🍦," the singer wrote on both Instagram and Twitter alongside a preview of the music video. In the clip, we see Martinez's head edited onto cookie dough in the shape of a girl as a baker dusts her with flour and begins rolling her out. Watch the teaser clip below.

Fans on Twitter have been quick to share their excitement. "WE’RE READY," said a fan in all caps while another wrote, "I'm gonna scream'. Another shared, "WE WILL BE STREAMING" while another declared: "First Jojis album now THIS  I’m so ditching school tomorrow." While one fan called her "PRINCESS OF ALT", another fan humorously added, "QUEEN OF PASTRIES" in their description of the singer.

Martinez has previously teased new music on her social media. On September 15, Martinez wrote, "Holdin’ onto these eggs till they’re ready to be hatched next week🐣💕" on Instagram.

'After School' will mark the fourth extended play by the artist and follows 'Cry Baby's Extra Clutter' which arrived in 2016. Apart from keeping fans uodated with new music in 2020 with the release of singles 'Copy Cat' (featuring Tierra Whack) and 'Fire Drill', Martinez's big project 'K-12' arrived in September last year. The 'K-12' studio album debuted at No 3 on the US Billboard 200 with 57,000 album-equivalent units, of which 30,000 were pure album sales. It is the singer's second US top-10 album and her highest-charting album on the chart to date.

The 7-song 'After School' is seemingly an addendum to 'K-12'. Both projects exist within the Cry Baby universe. 'The Bakery' was inspired by Martinez being fired from a bakery while in high school. “Eatin’ all the rainbow cookies, pies are flying through the roof,” she sings over the catchy electropop track. “Not my first pick but I’ll do it, make the cash right so I can move quick out this shithole with a new whip.” Once 'The Bakery' releases tonight, you can watch the official video below.

Other highlights from the EP include 'Notebook', 'Brain & Heart', and 'Glued'. Also, stay tuned for the full 'After School' EP.
