'No wonder she did a runner': Meghan Markle says UK citizenship test was so 'hard' she sought Harry's help
MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle has been slammed online for saying she worked towards clearing the “hard” UK's citizenship test after meeting Prince Harry and that some of the questions’ difficulty level was so high that even the Duke had no clue. The former actress made the remarks in her latest episode of 'Archetypes' podcast released on Tuesday, November 1.
The star guest of the Tuesday episode was First Lady of Canada Sophie Trudeau as the two spoke on being wives of famous men and being mothers. The topic reportedly was “Good Wife/Bad Wife, Good Mom/Bad Mom”. The episode also had comedian Pamela Adlon, who recently became a UK citizen.

When Adlon shared, “Oh that's another thing we have in common, the English people thing, I'm English,” Meghan said, “Yes, I heard you just got your citizenship, was it last year, a couple of years ago?” The 56-year-old then stated, “I did a couple of years ago,” to which the Duchess replied, “That citizenship exam is so hard. I was studying for it and I remember going 'oh my goodness'. I would ask my husband. 'Did you know this? Did you know this?' And he would be like 'I had no idea'.”
Adlon then went on to joke, “I think they made it harder for you.” Meghan said, “You think?” and the actress, who is also the winner of the Primetime Emmy Award, added, “Yeah, they were like, we're gonna really throw up walls on this one.” However, it has been said that Meghan did not clear the exam after she and her husband decided to step down from senior royal duties in 2020.
Elsewhere, in the podcast, the mother-of-two portrayed Sophie as “emblematic of strength” as she mentioned, “Sophie has become a dear friend and someone who I think is so emblematic of strength that comes from embracing your humanity, even in the face of all these family and home and public pressures, keeping that sense of self while holding up the mantle of what comes with being a parent and a spouse, that's a full plate.”
Meghan also paid tribute to her mother as she added, “With this episode on my brain, it got me thinking about all the ways my mom supported me. How she took care of me and the house and herself and how she just juggled so much. The amount that women carry, that they navigate, it's immense and it's often the most thankless unpaid labour there is. There's no union, there's no lunch break, there's nothing like that. At home, women just work really, really hard. A lot of that work is born out of necessity, but so much of it is also born out of expectations.”
Meanwhile, people have taken aim at the 41-year-old as a user tweeted, “What a bunch of malarkey!! She’s a compulsive liar 🤥.” “Why would Harry know how to answer questions about the UK he was already a citizen lol,” the second user wrote and the third one said, “Asked for Harry’s help with a test 🤣🤣🤣🤣.” “She was depending on Harry to help her pass a test? No wonder she got desperate and did a runner,” the fourth user added.
