LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Sweetest Pie’ hitmaker Megan Thee Stallion has had enough with Tory Lanez and has decided to move on for the better as her shooter has been convicted for the crimes.

Megan Thee Stallion, who has been subjected to gun violence and subsequent public humiliation and trauma, has recently written an op-ed in a leading magazine to share her views. The resilient Grammy-winning musician firmly declared that she doesn’t want to call herself a “victim” and rather views herself “as a survivor”. She opened up about the process of overcoming the trauma induced by the betrayal from someone she “trusted and considered a close friend.”

'You look good in that purple': Megan Thee Stallion catcalled on way to trial while Tory Lanez gets praise

As Megan is all set to appear on the cover image of Elle magazine’s May issue, she bared her heart out in the op-ed. Referring to Lanez as “my attacker”, she said, “For years, my attacker peddled false narratives about what happened on the night of July 12, 2020. For years, my attacker tried to leverage social media to take away my power.” However, she "persevered". She said, “I could have let the adversity break me, but I persevered, even as people treated my trauma like a running joke.”

She further revealed that while she was still “releasing music”, she was falling “into a depression”. “The truth is that I started falling into a depression. I didn’t feel like making music. . . There would be times that I’d literally be backstage or in my hotel, crying my eyes out, and then I’d have to pull Megan Pete together and be Megan Thee Stallion,” the ‘Savage’ singer, whose real name is Megan Pete, said about the lowest point of her life.

“When the guilty verdict came on Dec. 23, 2022, it was more than just vindication for me, it was a victory for every woman who has ever been shamed, dismissed, and blamed for a violent crime committed against them,” said the 28-year-old rapper.

‘Prayer has also played a therapeutic role in my healing’

It’s not without God’s help that the ‘Cognac Queen’ is making peace with herself as she said, “I’m in a happier place, but I still have anxiety. Talking about being shot still makes me emotional. I’ve started journaling as a way to better process my thoughts, hopes, and fears. Prayer has also played a therapeutic role in my healing because I can have honest and unfiltered conversations with God without any judgment.”

After being “cautious” with how she “interact[s] with others and analyze their true intentions,” she is now prioritizing herself. She said, “I’m putting myself first now because I know what I like, I know what I don’t like, I know what I’m not going to tolerate, and I know what I can endure because I’ve been battle-tested for so long. I’m ready to show everybody that all the dirt they threw at me didn’t stick.”

After declaring that this would be the last time she would be speaking about the shooting, she said, “I understand the public intrigue, but for the sake of my mental health, I don’t plan to keep reliving the most traumatic experience of my life over and over again. I’m choosing to change the narrative because I’m more than just my trauma.”

“This is a rebirth of a happier and healthier me. I’m a survivor and I have—and will continue—to embrace the highs and lows of my journey,” said the ‘Girls in the Hood’ hitmaker, before concluding, “I’m excited to get back into music because I have been so transformed. I’m playing around with new songs and new sounds that I can’t wait for everyone to hear.”

Tory Lanez shooting case

On July 15, 2020, Megan Thee Stallion, or Megan Pete said in a statement said, “I suffered gunshot wounds as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me. I was never arrested, the police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets.” reported Variety. While initially, it was not clear what happened on July 27, she revealed she was shot in both feet.

In August 2020, she revealed it was the R&B musician Tory Lanez who shot her and said, “I didn’t tell the police what happened immediately right there because I didn’t want to die,” reports BuzzFeedNews

In October 2020, Larez was charged with shooting Megan and was ordered to stay 100 yards away from her, reports Rap-Up. In April 2022, he was arrested for violating the protection order. In December 2022, the case finally came to an end after Megan testified against him and Lanez was convicted of three felony charges issued from the shooting, reports The New York Times.
