LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The first teaser for 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' has arrived, featuring Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger Charlize Theron character portraying a desolate warrior with other well-known characters like Immortan Joe.

Along with returning 'Fury Road' cast members Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus and Angus Sampson as The Organic Mechanic, the film also stars Tom Burke and Daniel Webber.

Keeping up 'Mad Max's history of casting Australian actors, Chris Hemsworth also stars in 'Furiosa' and looks quite wild in his portrayal of Dementus.

Everything 'Furiosa' trailer teases about 'Mad Max'

First showcased at CCXP, the new trailer for 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' provides the first look at the highly anticipated follow-up to director George Miller's 2015 film 'Mad Max: Fury Road'.

Warner Bros' post-apocalyptic epic saga, which is scheduled to debut in May 2024, will center on the beginnings of Charlize Theron's 'Fury Road' character—this time, played by Anya Taylor-Joy.

The 'Furiosa' trailer promises an action-packed fun movie while introducing Taylor-Joy's youthful Furiosa, who hasn't yet chopped off her long, flowing hair at the film's start (though the last shot reveals she does so during the plot).

She faces an unrecognizable Chris Hemsworth as the villain Dementus on her search for home while also trying to save a child's life.

The official synopsis of the movie states that Furiosa is abducted from the Green Place of Many Mothers and ends up in the hands of a powerful Biker Horde commanded by the Warlord Dementus.

As they sweep across the Wasteland, they arrive across the Citadel, which is ruled by the late Hugh Keays-Byrne's Fury Road character, Immortan Joe.

Furiosa must endure several challenges as she pieces together her way to return home, all the while the two tyrants struggle for supremacy.

In her speech at CCXP, Taylor-Joy stated that the film "is a story of grit, survival, and impossible hope," as per Entertainment Weekly.

According to the actor, Hemsworth portrays Dementus, who is "a very violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the Wasteland."

The onscreen text first explains that the film is set 45 years after the fall of civilization, but then the trailer alludes to several significant events in Furiosa's early existence.

She also swears to come home at all costs, but she doesn't achieve this until the events of 'Fury Road'.

It appears that Furiosa will be defending a child's life for most of the story. The young persona appears to be presented as a trophy for winning a race, and Furiosa is later seen driving her away.

Hemsworth as a new antagonist is also revealed in the 'Furiosa' trailer. A younger Immortan Joe is also present. He still needs to use the breathing apparatus he dons in 'Fury Road'.

Overall, the film appears to be a comprehensive continuation of the 'Mad Max' world established in the previous film, however, it promises a lot of exciting new turns and twists.

'Mad Max' fans slam special effects in 'Furiosa' trailer

Though Warner Bros' post-apocalyptic epic trailer appears to provide a lot of unexpected plot twists, 'Mad Max' fans are not so impressed by the over-the-top special effects used in the film.

One such 'Mad Max' fan slammed the special effects on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and called it "mediocre".

The X user wrote, "Let's make a prequel to that one Furiosa (Guest Starring Mad Max) movie whose only saving grace was excellent practical effects, but this time we use obvious and mediocre CGI!"

A second one added, "Looks good. CGI looks bad, but the rest looks good."

One more concerned fan compared 'Furiosa' with past 'Fury Road' movies and wrote, "Loved Mad Max Fury Road and have been looking forward to this but I'm surprised and worried about the amount of bad CGI I'm seeing here. Fury Road had amazing practical effects combined with CG you couldn't tell was there. This looks like Sin City in comparison."

"The new Mad Max trailer, Furiosa, looks horrible to me, what the hell did they do to it? I'm done with modern Hollywood cinema. I'll just rewatch old stuff. Look at this hilariously bad CGI. Is...is...that city...AI generated? Lmao," wrote another one.

One more disappointed 'Mad Max' fan wrote, "I cannot explain how much I’m not looking forward to #Furiosa. Honestly, that teaser was ROUGH compared to MMFR (lack of explosions, slow pacing, weird CGI, focus on goddess complex). My bro was like, “I’ll watch it to learn more about Immortan Joe.” Same, dude."

One more Internet user called the CGI "insane" and wrote, "I’m going to be very honest, it’s cringe asf. Ana Taylor Joy would not be my choice for furiosa, it doesn’t work. the mad max movies are very gritty and dirty, more practical. This film lacks what made mad max so amazing. The level of CGI was insane. Not buying it."

Being hopeful, another fan chimed in, "Furiosa looks insane George Miller is going to show these fellas how it’s done also I’m sure they will fix some of the spotty CGI by the time of release we are back baby."
