What is Matt James’s ethnicity? A look at ‘The Bachelor’ star’s roots as he flaunts his Christian beliefs
‘The Bachelor’ Season 25 star Matt James made headlines much before the show’s premiere once he was introduced as the show's “first Black” male lead. The viewers have been eagerly waiting to see who he would be picking as his future wife, as many began discussing about his preference of race. And, some wonder who would make for his perfect match after seeing his display of faith on the first episode of the current season.
Going by the preview, the February 1 episode will showcase his “county roots” as he discusses his early life with the suitresses on a group date. Even though Matt has widely spoken about belonging from North Carolina, we can expect to learn more about his upbringing in the next segment.
What is Matt James’s ethnicity?
Even though Matt is labeled the “first Black” lead of ‘The Bachelor’, he is in fact bi-racial. For the unversed, he was born to a White mother and Black father. He was raised by his mother Patty James, who was a single parent. As far as his religious views are concerned, Matt made it clear at the beginning of the show that he’s a stout believer in Christianity when he asked the suitresses to join him for a session of prayer. Following their first interaction with Matt, which was headlined by a prayer, the suitresses couldn’t stop gushing about his “faith”.
Matt often shares Biblical verses in his Instagram posts and even his bio says that he is a “believer”. In an interview with his alma mater’s magazine, he once said, “Other than becoming a Christian, coming to Wake Forest was the best decision I ever made.”
A look at his early life
Born in 1991, Matt was raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. Perhaps, it would be interesting to know how he spent his childhood in “City of Oaks”. Matt pursued his majors in Economics at Wake Forest University. He played football since school throughout college and was even in a part of the mini-camp tryouts with Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints of NFL. In the later stages of his life he worked at PNC Bank in Pennsylvania, before moving to New York City where he started working for CBRE Group, Inc.
