Spoilers for Season 3 Finale of 'Marcella'

Nordic crime drama 'Marcella' just unleashed its third season after a two-year-long impatient and painful wait by fans and now social media is already buzzing with speculations and genuine concern over certain characters in the upcoming, yet to be greenlit Season 4. The ending of Season 3 saw Marcella (Anna Friel) pretty much immerse herself in her new identity, after shedding the disguise she had put on to go undercover and tear apart the Maguire family.

Her handler Frank's personal vendetta was the ulterior motive, but it all boils down to a big shootout with both Frank and Marcella's colleague Rav Sangha (Ray Panthaki) shot. The only person Marcella could rescue was a newborn baby, and if the epilogue is to be trusted, it looks like she's about to begin a new life with this new shot at motherhood. What about her kids? Is this the last we see of Kiera? What about Marcella's mental state? These are the questions we are left with but the fandom has bigger complaints and concerns in mind. What happened to Rav? Is he alive? Was it a worthy ending to his arc? Will he be in Season 4? Fans can't keep calm!

This season saw Marcella trying to cling on to her sanity as her mental issues get worse and doing her job as a police officer becomes more difficult. Leaving her kids back home, she infiltrates the Maguire family in Belfast and while death threats loom large should her identity be revealed, external threats linger in the form of someone stalking her. To add to that, Rav also arrives at Belfast and becomes an immediate threat to blow her cover, making Marcella suspect both him and Frank for obvious reasons.

To add to that, when she sees security footage of her stalker, she is met with the haunting realization that it was her all along. Marcella becomes so invested in playing the role that she dissociates from her identity and develops this whole other personality that refers to Marcella in the third person. Coming face to face with people from the past triggers something in Kiera, propelling her to leave clues and hints around, that could source the real Marcella from inside.

Once back, the real Marcella is ready to wrap up the case and even calls Rav to tell him her hiding place and all the evidence against the Maguires. Unfortunately, they have a whiff of the imposter amidst themselves and it leads to the big showdown that ends with one of the Maguires shooting Finn.

However, fans weren't aware of the truth behind how Rav got shot and a dissociated Marcella acting like a whole other person being confronted by him had left several wondering if she shot him. Thrilled that that's not the case, a fan tweeted about the colleagues: "I KNEW MARCELLA WASNT THE ONE WHO SHOT RAV BECAUSE SHE WILL NEVER."

Sadly, the story ends with Marcella leaving behind her life, work, and kids to start afresh with the baby she took from the now-dead Maguires. So we probably won't get to see her and Rav's dynamics evolve into something potentially romantic, or even further platonically. But fans are just happy that there's hope for the two.

It is Rav's safety however that fans are concerned about. Hoping that this isn't the last time we see Rav, a fan tweeted: "Rav is one of my favorite characters ever and no one else could’ve played him! I’m just praying Marcella is renewed for a 4th season AND YOU’RE IN IT! I literally beg you — the show wouldn’t be nearly half as good without you." Another reminisced: "damn when #Marcella had that psychotic episode and attacked Rav after he tried to help her , and cut her hair and her face I - is he ok?"

Some other fans weren't too thrilled about the way things wrapped for the character; "Marcella decided to take the almost $25,000,000.00 [pain and suffering from sleeping with Finn; having to deal with the Maguire family/associates] and kept Katie. She is not in any type of normal mental state to give that baby stability. And, why no closure on Rav, Lord?" tweeted a complainant. Another torn fan shared: "I loved season 3 but ONLY if there's a Season 4! Rav’s story was not well wrapped up - whatsoever- nor was Marcella’s old life." 'Marcella' Season 3 is available for streaming on Netflix.
