'Making The Cut': Naomi goes on shopping spree at Jonny's store even though designs are not 'groundbreaking'

From being a timid, LA-based designer to emerging on top of the crowd, Jonny has proven enough number of times that he's got what it takes to be the next global brand

A 14-look collection and art direction for a pop-up store all in a month's time — how hard can it be? Apparently, very hard, stressful and exhausting.

Jonny Cota, one of the finalists, traveled to Bali, Indonesia, after he returned to Los Angeles after the completion of a grueling few weeks of taping and designing for Amazon-backed fashion competition series 'Making The Cut'.

He is excited but also nervous because a lot is at stake as the contestants — Jonny, Esther Perbandt and Sander Bos — return to New York to put their pop-store together and assess how their collections would fit into the lofty concepts they have in mind for the store.

Jonny's collection, titled 'Metamorphosis' features a lot of butterflies and a pair of vogue dancers. He wanted it to be gritty but also have that element of tenderness. On visiting the area, Tim Gunn thought there was too much happening with space since he had mannequins and dancers.

"Think about the chaos theory of all these people coming through here. People are going to want to take things off the rack, they are going to want to try things on. And frankly, I don't want this to derail you," Tim commented, which left Jonny thinking.

He was worried about the dancers taking up too much space, but eventually went with the idea and judges Nicole Richie and Joseph Altuzarra seemed to like it.

Heidi Klum and Naomi Campbell went on a shopping spree at Jonny's store while Chiara Ferragni thought that his store was the only one that looked like an actual "store" and added that she can see so many different kinds of people wearing his designs.

However, Joseph had an issue with how the clothes look. "If there's one negative, it's that the brand identity, it reminds me of other things," he pointed out. Naomi seemed to like his clothes even though they weren't "groundbreaking" for her.

Jonny's journey on the show has been really interesting. From being a timid, LA-based designer to emerging on top of the crowd, he has proven enough number of times that he's got what it takes to be the next global brand.

Over the last few weeks, he has won a couple of challenges and shown to the judges and viewers that he is capable of being versatile and knows his way around catering to a wider audience.
