'MacGyver' Season 4 Episode 9 Preview: Sneak peek reveals villain of the week but is Codex involved?
'MacGyver' Season 4 Episode 9 is just around the corner and it puts the focus on Riley Davis (Tristin Mays) as she tries to deal with a cyberattack on the Los Angeles mainframe that was committed using code she wrote. 'Code + Artemis + Nuclear + N3mesis' will also see Angus "Mac" MacGyver (Lucas Till) attempt to deal with the grief of his father's death.
There's the threat of a nuclear attack in the air so things are pretty serious. Earlier we had speculated that the attack could have been spearheaded by Codex working with a hacker group called N3mesis (based on the title) but we now have some new and interesting information.
One of the sneak peeks from the episode shows the hacker getting into the Department of Water and Power's mainframe and reveals that "N3mesis" might actually be the name of the code used in the attack. In another sneak peek, Riley reveals that she developed the code alongside her friends Peyton (Holly Deveaux) and Kai (Sea Shimooka), the latter of whom was the one who attacked the DWP.
While there is a chance that Kai was acting alone, there's a pretty good chance that she may be working for Codex. Considering their role in the death of James MacGyver / Oversight (Tate Donovan), if Codex is involved that's bound to make this a whole lot more personal for Mac.
According to CBS's press release for Episode 9 'Code + Artemis + Nuclear + N3mesis', Tate Donovan will be returning as Oversight in the story. We're assuming that he will either be a flashback or a hallucination of some sort but either way, it's bound to be pretty heartbreaking.
One of the sneak peeks from the episode shows Mac going through some of his Dad's stuff and finding a flash drive addressed to him while thinking back to his meeting with Gwendolyn Hayes / Titan (Jeri Ryan). There's a chance the drive holds the secrets to File 47 so maybe that will be revealed in the episode.
The cast of 'MacGyver' Season 4 includes Lucas Till as Angus “Mac” MacGyver, Tristin Mays as Riley Davis, Justin Hires as Wilt Bozer, Meredith Eaton as Matty Weber, Levy Tran as Desi Nguyen and Henry Ian Cusick as Russ Taylor. Guest stars appearing in this episode include Sea Shimooka, Holly Deveaux, Ramon De Ocampo, and Delaney Williams.
Tate Donovan will also be returning to the show in Episode 9 after his character's death in the last episode. Here's the official synopsis for 'Code + Artemis + Nuclear + N3mesis': "While Mac’s friends surround him during his time of grief, Los Angeles’ power grid is taken hostage in a ransomware attack resulting in a citywide blackout, and the team discovers the code used was written by Riley years ago."
'MacGyver' Season 4 airs Fridays at 8 pm ET, exclusively on CBS.
