Peacock has added another name to their list of original comedies with a straight-to-series order for 'MacGruber'
NBC Universal's streaming platform Peacock is now home to the action-comedy series 'MacGruber'. On August 11, the streaming service announced an eight-episode pickup of the series that began on 'Saturday Night Live' as a parody sketch and was later adapted as a feature film in 2010. Will Forte will reprise his role as the titular character of 'MacGruber'. The film version starred Forte alongside Kristen Wiig as Vicki (MacGruber’s colleague and lover) and Ryan Phillippe as Piper (who joins MacGruber’s team), Val Kilmer as the villainous Dieter Von Cunth; Wiig and Philippe are reportedly in talks to reprise their roles for the show, but more on that once details are released. Meanwhile, let's take a look at everything we can expect from the upcoming TV show.
The makers have not revealed the release date of the series but they have announced that it will join the platform somewhere in 2021. We will update this article, once we have more information.
The half-hour series is an adaptation of the 2010 feature film of the same name, and will also be directed by the film’s helmer Jorma Taccone. The official plotline reads, "After rotting in prison for over a decade, America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber (Will Forte) is finally released. His mission: To take down a mysterious villain from his past—Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber must race against time to defeat the forces of evil — only to find that evil... may be lurking within."
Orville Willis Forte IV known as Will Forte will play the lead role in the film. He is not just an actor but is also a known comedian, writer, producer and voice artist. From the silver screen to the big cinema, he has played many characters in these years. His works include 'The Last Man on Earth' (starred and produced), 'Saturday Night Live', 'MacGruber', 'That's my boy', 'The watch' and many more.
Forte is the writer and executive producer of the show, alongside John Solomon and Jorma Taccone (who will also be directing) the creative team behind the 2010 movie. Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn, Andrew Singer and Erin David also serve as executive producers. 'MacGruber' is from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Broadway Video.
