'Lovecraft Country': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and everything else about HBO's Jim Crow era show

'Lovecraft Country' is HBO's upcoming release executive produced by Misha Green, who also serves as showrunner, J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Bill Carraro, Yann Demange, Daniel Sackheim and David Knoller. The show is based on a novel by Matt Ruff.

Release date: 

'Lovecraft Country' is slated to release on HBO in August. 

Plot: 

According to HBO, the official plot of the show is that "The series follows Atticus Freeman as he joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across the 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father. This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback."

Cast: 

Jonathan Majors as Atticus Black.

Actor Jonathan Majors will be seen playing the lead role of Atticus Black, who embarks on a road trip with his uncle George and his friend Letitia to find his father. 

Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Letitia "Leti" Dandridge.

Actor Jurnee Smollett-Bell plays the role of Atticus' friend Letitia who accompanies him on his crazy road trip. 

Other characters include: 

Wunmi Mosaku as Ruby Dandridge, Leti's hustler half-sister.

Aunjanue Ellis as Hippolyta Black, Atticus' aunt and a star-gazer with an itch for adventure.

Michael K. Williams as Montrose Freeman, Atticus' hard-headed and secretive father.

Abbey Lee as Christina Braithwhite, the sole daughter of the leader of a secret order known as the 'Sons of Adam'.

Courtney B. Vance as George Black, Atticus' warm, funny and well-read uncle.

Jamie Harris as Eustace Hunt, the county sheriff.

Jamie Chung as Ji-Ah, a seemingly naive nursing student who is more than what she seems.

Jordan Patrick Smith as William, Christina's henchman, and lover.

Tony Goldwyn as Samuel Braithwhite, patriarch of his family, who views people as assets and objects and outsiders — including his daughter Christina — as inferiors.

Creator: 

The show is created by Misha Green who also serves as the executive producer. She is a  television writer and producer best known for her work 'Underground'. 

Trailer: 

The trailer of the show was released on May 1 and it introduces us to Atticus Turner a Black World War II veteran and a science nerd. The Order of the Ancient Dawn is a cult that has kidnapped Atticus' father and he now has to go to their headquarters to rescue him. However, the headquarters is located in rural New England, in a place known as Lovecraft Country. When Atticus realizes this, he doesn't seem too excited about what awaits him. The trailer also promises that, just like the book, we can expect some extra-dimensional monsters that would add to the show's supernatural horror theme.
