With a title straight out of a hit 1970 Gil Scott-Heron song of the same name, it's understandable why 'Lovecraft Country's Episode 2: 'Whitey's on the Moon' couldn't seem farther away. The anticipation builds up with bated breaths after watching the Shoggoths practically devour and wipe out the racist White people who threatened our beloved Atticus (Jonathan Majors) and his troupe. The upcoming episode is said to encompass the latter half of Matt Ruff's expansive first chapter from the book of the same name that the HBO show is based on. And if the trailer is any proof, they were just getting started with the Shoggoths.

Back in 'Sundown', the first episode of Misha Green's on-screen adaptation of Ruff's book, we saw the mysterious town of Ardham where Atticus is trying to find out what happened to his father. He returns home from the war after his dad goes missing but ends up discovering monsters from his favorite sci-fi thrillers entering the realm of reality. They aren't the only dangers his braves as racist White men are out to practice every ounce of the titular 'Sundown Town' practice. After escaping gigantic monster amoebas and suspicious men chasing them in cars, Atticus, his uncle George (Courtney B Vance), and a third musketeer Letitia (Jurnie Smollett) set off on an adventure to debunk the mystery that is Ardham. And considering Atticus follows his father to the town, looks like in the second episode we will finally learn more about his mother's past.

In a letter from Montrose to Atticus shown in the pilot, the father warns his son that he can't run away from the past as his mother did. Montrose himself was going to seek the truths about Atticus's mother and the life she didn't want to remember, thus sparking off a string of explosive reveals Atticus is about to make in the second episode. What Montrose's purpose was in Ardham and what the town's connection to its adjacent witch-hunting one is might also be dawned on Atticus. Not only is Ardham not on the maps, but there's also the ever so foreboding and ominous Ardham mansion where magic is sure to be flowing in the walls.

As Atticus's journey advances, the promo teaser for Episode 2 also teases more monsters and mayhem along the way with witchcraft galore. Plus there's a hovering woman in a silver car who seems to be tailing the trio. There's no dearth to this maddening mystery, is there?

'Lovecraft Country' airs on Sundays at 9 pm only on HBO.
