Ru-El Sailor has filed a civil rights lawsuit against the city of Cleveland and the Cleveland police officers who worked his case, which led to his wrongful conviction, and he had to spend 16 years behind bars.
According to Clevescene, the lawsuit alleged that Cleveland police officers withheld "exculpatory evidence" from Sailor's defense team and from the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office itself.
The lawsuit also claimed that officers took actions to make witnesses refuse to cooperate or testify. They also alleged that the police officers' "behavior concerning hiding evidence was hard-baked into the Cleveland police department's DNA and has been for decades."
