'Looks like a winner': Fans 'can't wait' as Disney releases new trailer for 'The Little Mermaid'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Disney released a long trailer for 'The Little Mermaid' during the Oscars ceremony. The hugely anticipated movie's trailer received excited reactions on social media.
Many iconic scenes from 'The Little Mermaid' are referenced in the trailer, including Ariel (Halle Bailey) saving Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) and their "Kiss the Girl" scene. However, the full unveiling of Melissa McCarthy's sea witch Ursula will probably be the most discussed aspect of the recently released footage. The middle part of the 'Little Mermaid' trailer, which depicts Ariel's fateful encounter with Ursula, provides a preview of the live-action villain.

What happens in 'The Little Mermaid' trailer?
The trailer suggests Disney's live-action adaptation of 'The Little Mermaid' will not stray far from its animated inspiration. Those who have watched the original movie will recognize many of the sequences in the clip: Bailey even strikes Ariel's most famous pose while perched atop a rock as the waves smash behind her. 'The Little Mermaid' trailer also offers the most up-to-date glimpses of characters like Sebastian (Daveed Diggs) and Scuttle (Awkwafina).
The central plot of 'The Little Mermaid' is still preserved. As Ariel saves Eric's life, her desire to explore the land and learn more about the people who live there is only intensified. As the teaser highlights, Ursula takes advantage of Ariel's longing and strikes a deal that would give her the legs she so desperately wants, but it may come at a very high price for the young princess. It appears 'The Little Mermaid' will carry the same beats as its predecessor in the same manner as other remakes 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'The Lion King'.
'This will be iconic'
Though the remake's casting has made fans feel betrayed, there are many around the globe still excited about the live-action version. "We're so excited about this!
