Lil Nas X says ‘sorry’ to trans community after transition joke fires back
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The 23-year-old rapper Lil Nas X, who maintains an open relationship with his followers on social media, was recently criticized by the trans community for an insensitive joke. In response, Lil Nas X, whose original name is Montero Lamar Hill, apologized to the fans whose feelings he had hurt.
The rapper wrote on his social media handle, “Apologies to the trans community i def handled that situation with anger instead of considering why it was not cool. much love to you guys. sorry.” The 'Industry Baby' star's apology came after he posted a photo of influencer Glow Princess (whose real name is Armanda Tounghui) in a since-deleted post with the caption "the surgery was a success" and a double heart emoji. The controversial post gave the impression that the Grammy winner had gone under the knife for gender reassignment surgery and that it was successful.

When the joke didn’t sit well with his fans, and they criticized him for targeting the trans community, the ‘Montero’ crooner responded with an angry tweet, “I’m literally just saying she looks like me y’all cannot be f**kin serious”. When one fan commented, “why did he have to mention surgery tho,” the rapper replied, “Because she has titties? are u dense?”
However, the Grammy Award winner for ‘Old Town Road’ came back with an apology after a day which his fans welcomed gladly.
'I’m not phased, only here to sin'
The 23-year-old musician is no stranger to controversy, however. After coming out as gay in 2019, he released a provocative video full of biblical imagery. What sparked the controversy, however, was that he dressed like Eve and went straight to hell through a stripper pole to give Lucifer a lap dance. The lyrics read, "If Eve ain't in your garden, you know you can," possibly alluding to homosexuality and the Bible's blaming view of it.
After the release of the music video, he also published an open letter to his 14-year-old self, in which he wrote, “I wrote a song with our name in it. It’s about a guy i met last summer. i know we promised to never come out publicly, i know we promised never to be ‘that’ type of gay person, i know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist.”
'Not offended king '
Nas X's apology split his fans in two. While some welcome it as a welcome step, others ask him to take it back because they love Nas X's humor. To which a critic replied, "Currently in america the trans community is being attacked both physically and legally by denying them care It was tone deaf to call a picture of a cis woman "himself, post-surgery" Since real trans people are being oppressed every day."
