Grammys 2020: Lil Nas X and Billie Ray Cyrus win the Grammy for Best Music Video for 'Old Town Road'
One of the year's biggest breakout stars, Lil Nas X has claimed the Best Music Video Grammy award for 'Old Town Road (Official Movie)', and deservedly so.
At the Grammy awards pre-show ceremony in Los Angeles where he received his debut Grammy award, Lil Nas X quipped "Let me just hold it" when he went to accept the golden gramophone, which was his first award of the night. With a huge smile on his face, the 20-year-old artiste then kept it brief and merely said "thank you," while trying to digest the incredible emotions of music's biggest night.
After becoming a viral video sensation on TikTok, the country-trap song 'Old Town Road', which was originally made in 2018, entered the Billboard Charts in March 2019. It went on to rule at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for an astounding 19 weeks. The video for 'Old Town Road (Official Movie)' has already racked up close to half a billion views of YouTube, so to not have won the Grammy for Best Music Video would have been a daylight robbery.
Lil Nas X also made the video with a little help from country music legend, Billie Ray Cyrus, better known to millennials as Miley Cyrus's dad - the young rapper recorded a remix of the 'Old Town Road' song with him in April 2019. Although they were facing a lot of stiff competition, their thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable video for 'Old Town Road (Official Movie)' has finally received the critical acclaim it deserves. Even legendary comedian Chris Rock makes an appearance.
The remix of 'Old Town Road' featuring Billy Ray Cyrus eventually reigned supreme in two categories - Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
Other nominees in this year's Best Music Video category were already pretty well-known for their creative endeavors and artistic prowess:
'We've Got To Try' - The Chemical Brothers
'This Land' - Gary Clark Jr.
'Cellophane' - FKA twigs
'Glad He's Gone' - Tove Lo
Look no further than the previous winners of this Grammy award for Best Music Video for confirmation of that. Many inspirational performers have won this honor for their short-form artistic ventures in the past, including Johnny Cash, David Bowie, Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters and Fatboy Slim (Yes, for that Christopher Walken video - we'd expect nothing less).
We'd like to congratulate Lil Nas X and Billie Ray Cyrus for this achievement and are looking forward to more great music and videos.
