Liddy Clark has been garnering much recognition and rising in fame as a young country artist, having released numerous hits including 'Painted By Numbers' 'Holding Her Hand' and 'I Hope You Dance'. We at MEA WorldWide explore the the artist with an interview below:

You have gained recognition for your nuanced implementation of indie pop to your music, which artists have you drawn influence from over the years?

I listen to a lot of different types of artists: John Mayer, Shania Twain, Billy Joel, Taylor Swift, Jon Bellion... There's a lot of different people I've listened to from a lot of different genres and I think growing up in such different environments and going from Texas to L.A. has really influenced a lot of the music that I do write and create.

Would you say that being boldy vulnerable in your music would have greater inspirational impact more than lyrics with hidden poetical meanings?

I think both are necessary. I think whatever the creator thinks is great for the song is what ultimately is best. I do try and be vulnerable with my lyrics. I write things pretty outright, but I will sometimes hide a bit more political meaning in my songs because I do have political beliefs and I like to put those in there somewhere and speak out for what I believe in.

You have gained much admiration for having started your career at such a young age. If you could meet your younger self, what would you tell her or would you change anything?

I wouldn't change anything, definitely, but I would tell myself to not think I know everything 'cause I think my attitude towards all this, especially when I was younger, was like, "Oh, these are great songs! I know exactly how I'm gonna do this and what's gonna happen and everyone's gonna love me", right? But, no, it's not that simple and the industry is much more complicated than anyone is ready to admit. And it's just knowing and being okay with not knowing everything is very important.

Is it true that you are related to Pocahontas?

Yes! Yeah, it is true. That is what inspired me to start singing. I found out I was related to Pocahontas and I decided to pay tribute to her at one of my school talent shows. I sang 'Colors of the Wind'.

'Shot down (Stand Up)' was your response to the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Would you say you are more inclined since then to write songs on affairs of the world or will you pursue your usual romantic songs and/or songs that inspire self-reflection?

I write songs about things that are important to me and things that I wanna speak out upon and 'Shot Down (Stand Up)' was something that I really needed to get off my chest, so I wrote that. And if I do feel strongly or passionately about anything, I'm gonna write a song about it. I don't really discriminate based on topic, it's just really whatever is inspiring me at the moment.

Do you have any favorite books or authors that you could share with us and do you ever suffer from writer's block?

Oh man! I do suffer from writer's block every once in a while. I've been reading a lot of Kurt Vonnegut lately. I really like him. But I haven't been reading as much as I should but I'm trying to get back into it, it's kinda one of my resolutions for the new year. And yeah, writer's block comes every once in a while but the key is just to write through the bad stuff and just keep writing no matter how good or bad it is

Let's talk about the song 'Holding Her Hand'. Is it about one particular person or more of a writing exercise on dealing with heartbreak?

I wrote 'Holding Her Hand' a few years ago, so, honestly, I didnt even really know what love was back then, and so I definitely would say it was more of a writing exercise and me kind of imagining what it would be like to be in love with somebody, I guess. And I've definitely felt that feeling before, even in the past few years of wanting to be with somebody but it not being able to work out. I draw inspiration from that sort of real life experience every time I sing it.

'Painted By Numbers' is an inspirational song which speaks about body image positivity and being comfortable with who you are. Do you have any advice or message to any youth who might be struggling with their self image or being bullied?

That was definitely another difficult song for me to write and just to anybody who is experiencing that. I think you have to find the thing in yourself that you can rely on and you have to just block out all the outside voices that are picking out imperfections about you or your appearance or the way you look. Because as long as you are healthy and you're living your best life, there's really nothing that should be holding you down no matter if you look like the stereotypical image of someone who is "beautiful". I think it is really just about being comfortable with being unique and being yourself. I have my favorite line from 'Painted By Numbers' which I think sums it up pretty well: "And when everyone’s ideal. Ain’t to everyone’s appeal. We all have our flaws".

On to your charity work; what organizations are you currently involved with?

There's a lot actually. I'm currently not super involved with every town, but I know Fred Guttenberg and his charity, Orange Ribbons for Jaime. It's a great organization to donate to, concerning gun violence in America. And I currently also foster dogs out in L.A. and I'm a part of the Wags and Walks rescue organization out there. I like to highlight different places where people can give back.

What can we expect to hear in your music next year?

I have one EP planned at this point, potentially. We've been recording an album at this point, truthfully, and so I'm really excited to start putting this music out. I've been working with a new producer and just being able to work on a larger collaboration of songs and having a common theme run through all of them is very exciting for me. Concept albums are really cool and so I think being able to put this together was a really exciting process and I'm very excited to have the music come out to the world and show the world this new side of me.
