'Bad Hair' Cast: Meet Elle Lorraine, Vanessa Williams, Laverne Cox and rest of the cast of Hulu horror-satire

'Bad Hair' is a comedy horror satire that is set to release on Hulu in October and follows the journey of a woman who discovers that her hair now has a life of its own. The film had debuted in January 2020 at the Sundance Film Festival and hails from 'Dear White People's' Justin Simien. Her is the A-list cast bringing this interesting story to life.

Lorraine is an actress and a producer known for her roles as Trina in 'Insecure' (2018-2020), Jamila in 'Dear White People' (2018) and Charlie in 'Sugar' (2016). Her most recent works include 'A Black Lady Sketch Show' (2019), 'Boomerang' (2020) and 'Acting for a Cause' (2020). She is listed as a producer for two releases titled 'Sugar' and a short documentary 'Wild Wild West: A Beautiful Rant by Mark Bradford' (2018). She plays the role of a young woman whose weave that she gets fitted for a job becomes violent - it essentially has a life. Lorraine seems to be the main protagonist in the horror satire, as per the officially released trailer.

Williams is known for her epic roles such as Wilhelmina Slater in 'Ugly Betty' (2006-2010), Carmen Vasquez in 'Shaft' (2000), Lee Cullen in 'Eraser' and Renne Perry in 'Desperate Housewives' (2010-2012). Her most recent roles include 'Batman: Hush' (2019) where she voices Amanda Waller, Nancy in 'The First Wives Club' (2019), Sally Rae in 'Miss Virginia' (2019) and Angela in 'Twenties' (2020). The actress is also a producer and her producer credits include the TV special, 'Vanessa Williams & Friends: Christmas in New York' (1996), the TV movie 'The Courage to Love' (2000), another special titled 'Vanessa Williams Christmas: Live by Request' (2004) and 'And Then Came Love' (2007). Williams has been nominated for three Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for 'Ugly Betty' in 2007, 2009 and 2009. She also was nominated for one Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for her role as Mama Mirabelle in 'Mama Mirabelle's Home Movies' (2007).

Lena Waithe as Brook-Lynne

Waithe is a writer, producer and actress known for her works such as 'Master of None' (2015-2017), 'Queen & Slim' (2019) and 'The Chi' (2018-2020). Her recent acting roles include 'Onward' (2020), '#BlackAF' (2020) and 'Westworld' (2020). She is listed as a producer for recent productions such as 'Twenties' (2020), 'Girls Room' (2020), 'You Ain't Got These' (2020), 'Boomerang' (2019-2020) and the TV series 'How to Make Love to a Black Woman' (2020). In 2017, Waithe won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for 'Master of None' which she shared with comedian Aziz Ansari. The talented actress has won many awards, including a Black Film Critics Circle Awards in 2019 for Best Original Screenplay for 'Queen & Slim' (2019), a Black Reel Award in 2020 for Outstanding First Screenplay for the same production, an honoree award at Essence Black Women in Hollywood in 2018 and a Tribeca X Award at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival for Best Episodic Short Series for 'Girls Room' which she shared with director Tiffany Johnson.

Cox is an actress, producer and writer known for her roles as Sophia Burset in 'Orange Is The New Black' (2013-2019), Chantelle in 'Musical Chairs' (2011), Bomb Instruction in 'Charlies' Angels' (2019) and Dr Frank-N-Furter from 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' (2016). Most recently she has stared in 'Dear White People' (2019), 'A Black Lady Sketch Show' (2019), 'Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens' (2020), 'Promising Young Woman' (2020) and 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' (2020). She has one release titled 'Jolt' (2021) in post-production and another released listed as filming titled 'Inventing Anna' where she plays the role of Kacy Duke. Her producer credits include 'Transform Me' (2010), 'Style Exposed' (2011) which she also has writing credits for 'Glam Masters' (2018) and the documentary 'Disclosure' (2020). She will also be the executive produced by the announced documentary titled 'Sell/Buy/Date'. Cox has been nominated for four Primetime Emmy for 'Orange Is the New Black' - Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2017, 2019 and 2020 and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2014. She was also nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Special for 'The T Word' (2014) which she shared with her teammates. In 2014, Coz also won the Dorian Award at the GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics and in 2014 the actress won a Stephen F Kolzak Award at the GLAAD Media Awards.

Pharoah is known for his roles as Nate Hoffman in 'Unsane' (2018), Floyd Mooney in 'White Famous' and Runflat in 'Ride Along' (2014). His most recent works include 'A Million Little Things' (2019), 'How to Fake a War' (2019), '2 Minutes of Fame' (2020) and the TV series 'Loafy' (2020). He has one completed release titled 'All My Life' under his belt, and two more releases in post-production titled 'The Adventures of Drunky' and 'Spinning Gold'. The actor is also a writer and his credits include the TV series 'BET's Comicview' (2013), the TV special 'Jay Pharoah: Can I Be Me?' (2015), the TV series 'CollegeHumor Originals' (2015) and the docuseries 'Gotham Comedy Live' (2016).

Kelly Rowland as Sandra

Besides being an exceptional music artiste, Rowland is also an actress. She is known for her roles as Kia Waterson in 'Freddy vs Jason' (2003), Gladys Knight in 'American Soul' (2019) and Brenda in 'Think Like A Man' (2012). Underwood is known for his roles as Mark Simon in 'Deep Impact' (1998) Geneticist in 'Gattaca' (1997), Captain Lee in 'Rules of Engagement' (2000) and Bobby Earl in 'Just Cause' (1995). His most recent epic role was in 'Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker' (2020) where he played Charles James Walker. His other recent works include 'Juanita' (2019), 'When They See Us' (2019), 'Dear White People' (2019) and 'The Lion Guard' (2016-2019). Underwood has been nominated for two Golden Globes - one in 1991 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for 'LA Law' (1986) where he played the role of Jonathan Rollins and another in 2009 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for 'In Treatment' (2008) where he played the role of Alex Prince. He also won a Daytime Emmy in 2017 for Outstanding Children's or Family Viewing Series for 'Give' which he shared with his teammates - he was an executive producer for the production.

James Van Der Beek as Grant Madison

Van Der Beek is known for his role as Dawson Leery in 'Dawson's Creek' (1998-2003), Mox in 'Varsity Blues' (1999), Sean Bateman in 'The Rules of Attraction' (2002) and Diplo in 'What Would Diplo Do?' (2017). His most recent works include 'Modern Family' (2017), 'Pose' (2018), 'Vampirina' (2017-2019), 'Jay and Silent Bob Reboot' (2019) and 'Home Movie: The Princess Bride' (2020). The actor won the Festival Award at the 2009 San Diego Film Festival for Best Actor for 'Formosa Betrayed' (2009) where he played the role of Jake Kelly and has won two MTV Movie Awards - one in 1999 for Best Breakthrough Male Performance for 'Varsity Blues' and another in 2001 for Best Cameo in a Movie for 'Scary Movie' (2000).

The official synopsis reads: "In this horror satire set in 1989, 'Bad Hair' follows an ambitious young woman who gets a weave in order to succeed in the image-obsessed world of music television. However, her flourishing career comes at a great cost when she realizes that her new hair may have a mind of its own."
