Months after comedian Dave Chappelle came under fire for making explicit jokes about transgender people, it is now British comedian Ricky Gervais who is facing the heat on similar lines. The ‘After Life’ star got brutally dragged on Twitter after his new Netflix special called ‘Supernatural’ debuted on Tuesday, May 24.

Ricky Gervais secured one of the top spots on the trending list after the LGBT community and its supporters took to the micro-blogging to boycott the special. In his special, Ricky mocks transgender women and the debate around bathroom access. A few minutes into the special, Ricky describes reading a comment from somebody calling him "as funny as a fart at a baby's funeral”. The 60-year-old then transitions to a joke about women. From there, he clarifies, "The old-fashioned women, the ones with wombs."

Ricky Gervais faces heat over new anti-trans jokes

Ricky Gervais in his special jokes, “I love the new women. They’re great, aren’t they? The new ones we’ve been seeing lately. The ones with beards and c**ks. They’re as good as gold, I love them.” He then refers to the highly-publicized trans bathroom controversy saying, “And now the old-fashioned ones say, ‘Oh, they want to use our toilets.’ ‘Why shouldn’t they use your toilets?’ ‘For ladies!’” They are ladies — look at their pronouns! What about this person isn't a lady?' 'Well, his penis.' 'Her penis, you f***ing bigot!'"

The renowned comedian also doubled down on his goal of getting cancelled. “You can’t predict what will be offensive in the future,” said Ricky. He added, “Like, the worst thing you can say today, get you canceled on Twitter, death threats, the worst thing you can say today is, ‘Women don’t have penises,’ right? Now, no one saw that coming.” He continued, “You won’t find a ten-year-old tweet saying ‘Women don’t have penises.’ You know why? We didn’t think we f**king had to!” Netflix, has, so far, not commented at the on-going backlash on social media.

‘To him we exist only as a punchline’

Crucifying Ricky Gervais’ "comedy" special on Netflix, one user stated, “We watched the Ricky Gervais "comedy" special on Netflix so you don’t have to. It’s full of graphic, dangerous, anti-trans rants masquerading as jokes. He also spouts anti-gay rhetoric & spreads inaccurate information about HIV.” Another chimed in, “Ricky Gervais has a new stand up show out on Netflix today. 5 minutes in and he’s making jokes about trans women attacking & raping people in public bathrooms. To him we exist only as a punchline, a threat, something less than human.” One user tweeted, “Never forget that Ricky Gervais blocked all the trans accounts before his special came out. Take that as you will.”

Meanwhile, one user asserted, “Ricky Gervais New Stand Up Show #SuperNature makes jokes about trans women attacking & raping people in public bathrooms. This isn't comedy. This is making cheap, nasty stereotypes out of a minority group. Please, if you're Transgender or Support Trans lives, don't watch this.” Another said, “Ricky Gervais could go after the governments, banks, billionaires. The ones causing actual harm to ordinary people all over the world on an unfathomable scale every single day. But he goes after trans people instead. Yeah Ricky, son, you speak your truth to power. Coward.” And, one concluded, “If you support Ricky Gervais in ANY WAY, you are not an ally of trans people. You are not an ally of mine.”
