Lana Del Rey says Mother's Day can be 'challenging for multitude of reasons', fans laud singer for her honesty
American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey shared a thoughtful message on Mother's Day, celebrated on May 10.
Del Rey spoke on Twitter about memes and blogs "that pop up about how Mother's Day isn't always the peaceful day some people hope it is." She said that the celebratory day is "challenging for a multitude of reasons" and referred to "family of origin traumas, disappointments of not being a mother" and "rifts with blood mothers.”
She said, “So on this day as I always do every Mother’s Day, I want to send my love out to all my sisters in the world who aren’t quite where they thought they would be this Mother’s Day, and to all of my sisters who are blissfully happy as well."
She continued by saying, “It’s a beautiful thing to be a woman,” and explained, “I feel like a mother inside and out in the way that I’m able to enjoy Mother Nature in all of its glory and in the capacity I have to hold all of my women friends – known to me and unknown – in my heart space, in my womb space, and in my arms and thoughts."
“I am the way I am because of the women along the way who have taught me everything I needed to know and loved me unconditionally," she said, adding, "I’m also the way I am because of the women I have encountered in his life who have put conditions on their love and are steely in their nature.”
Del Rey's message concluded with "I'm grateful to both and I am wise now too" and gave a shoutout to women who are "playful!" like her "with a fire in their hearts that warms everyone they know and can never be extinguished."
The songstress posted a tribute to her own mother, Patricia Ann Hill, on Instagram later with the caption"1 million reasons why I am grateful." The post included several photos of Del Rey with her sister, Caroline, and her mother.
Fans on Twitter were very supportive and appreciative of the singer's message while sending their love. "Don’t listen to the people who constantly bring you down. you know why’re on this planet - to thrive mama! keep doing what you’re doing and never stop creating art (sic)" said a fan while another wrote, "WE LOVE YOU F**KIN SO MUCH LANA." One fan said, "this comes from ur heart and i respect it so much thank you a thousand times." Another fan called the singer, "magical mystical del rey."
One fan shared, "I’ve been struggling with infertility and miscarriages, and your words of feeling like a mother for other reasons has me in tears. This is so beautiful and well put. Thank you."
Del Rey is working on a new poetry collection, titled 'Violet Bend Backwards Over The Grass' as of late. She has since teased the project by sharing lines from a poem called ‘Happy’ last month, also releasing the artwork and announcing it’ll be accompanied by music from Jack Antonoff.
