Katy Perry slammed for 'vile' Jeffrey Dahmer lyrics in 2013 hit 'Dark Horse'
Even though Jeffrey Dahmer, a serial killer and sex offender who committed the murder and dismemberment of 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991 died in 1994, he is back in the headlines. This time with Katy Perry, who has been slammed for ‘Dark Horse’ lyrics after the recent release of the Netflix series, ‘Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,’ on September 21.
According to The Sun, since the release of the Netflix series, fans have criticized Perry for a lyric in her 2013 track 'Dark Horse' which makes reference to Dahmer and his crimes. And despite being released almost a decade ago, netizens are now pointing out how one line rapped by Juicy J, who features on the track, is "terrible" and "vile." The line goes by, "Uh, she's a beast/I call her Karma. She eats your heart out like Jeffrey Dahmer." Some have labeled it "disrespectful."

One person wrote on Twitter, "Since Jeffrey Dahmer is trending right now, can talk about how weird Juicy J’s line in Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” is…" While another said, "It still upsets me when I hear the line in the song Dark Horse "She eats your heart out like Jeffrey Dahmer" and I always make my daughter turn the station. It's so disrespectful to the victims families. I hope people remember them while watching Netflix. Sorry for their losses." One more commented by saying, "Why isn’t anyone calling out Katy Perry for allowing such a vile & terrible lyric to be included in one of her hit songs? Jeffrey was a notorious serial killer & Katy CHOSE to romanticize his criminal & inhumane actions. I actually feel sick to my stomach. She NEEDS to apologize."

According to Joe, Wikipedia lists around 60 songs that mention Dahmer in their tracks, including songs by Eminem, Phoebe Bridgers, and Nicki Minaj, among others. One user even tweeted the list by saying, "you know jeffree dahmer is literally one of the most referenced criminals in pop & hip hop music, right? dark horse by katy perry & juicy j also name dropped him and that went #1 in 2014. like… it’s been so normalized for decades now that this naive tweet is funny to me."

The bashing continued, with one saying the hate on 'Dark Horse' and 'Cannibal,' Kesha's 2010 song in which she sings, "And for dessert, I'll suck your teeth/Be too sweet, and you'll be a goner/(Yeah) I'll pull a Jeffrey Dahmer," is ridiculous. The user wrote, "I knew who Jeffrey Dahmer was way before those songs were released, and I thought nothing differently of the songs. If you’re offended, don’t listen to it. Easy as that. I’m just saying."
