NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In an in-depth conversation with Glamour on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, Katie Holmes discussed sexual assault, her love for her daughter Suri Cruise, and how she fails to regard herself as sexy. The 'Dawson's Creek' actress, 44, was speaking with the magazine about her family and her ascent to prominence while promoting a movie titled 'Rare Objects', which has been directed by her.

'Rare Objects' is based on Kathleen Tessaro's 2016 book of the same name. Holmes' film is set in contemporary New York City, though the book was written following the Great Depression. The main character of the film is a young woman who works in an antique shop in an effort to restore her life before other characters from her past start to appear.

'Sexual assault is an understood secret amongst women'

Benita, played by Julia Mayorga, is assaulted in a scene early in the movie, reports DailyMail.com. "What was most important to me was what it did to [Benita] in the aftermath," Holmes said about filming the sensitive moment. "To me, unfortunately, [sexual assault] is an understood secret amongst women, so we don't have to share too much to know what we're talking about. Julia was so incredible in that scene, and that was really a difficult one to shoot because I just needed her face," she added.

With a nose ring and a translucent black and white shirt with gold trim, Holmes looked stunning for the Glamour cover. She also posed in cut-out gold dresses with striking belts in other appearances before switching to a weird white corset top and gray bottoms. She also provided a rare glimpse into family life with her daughter Suri, 16, whom she had with her ex-husband Tom Cruise in other parts of the conversation.

'An incredible person'

Holmes claimed she is protective of her adolescent daughter Suri because she grew up with shutterbugs following her everywhere. The 'Dawson's Creek' alum remarked in Glamour's cover story, "What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her." Holmes said that she is "grateful" to be Suri's mother, despite rarely mentioning her 16-year-old daughter in interviews. "She’s an incredible person," the 'Mad Money' star added.

The relationship between Suri's A-lister parents Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes gave rise to the public's obsession with their daughter. When the marriage of the actor and actress ended in 2011, curiosity in the now-teenage girl soared. After the couple's divorce, Cruise, 60, began to detach himself from his daughter, and their connection remains unresolved to date.

Dad Tom Cruise 'has no part' in daughter Suri's life

In March, a source exclusively revealed to Page Six that the 'Mission: Impossible' actor has not seen his daughter in for a while and is not involved in her life. Suri has reportedly begun applying to universities with the support of her mother, but the teen's renowned father won't be assisting her because the actor "has no part" in his child's life.

In accordance with their divorce paperwork, Cruise declared to pay Holmes $400,000 annually up until Suri became 18 years old. Holmes was given "sole custody" of Suri. A decade has passed since Suri last saw her 'Mission Impossible' actor father, who left after Katie refused to join The Church of Scientology.
