Kate Ferdinand announced the heartbreaking news about her miscarriage 12 weeks into the pregnancy on Wednesday, July 27. The reality star, who was expecting her second child with ex-footballer husband Rio Ferdinand, stated that she was "heartbroken" while posting a picture from the hospital on her Instagram page.

The former 'The Only Way Is Essex' star stated that she is "devastated" by the loss in an emotional caption addressed to her fans. Kate also has a son named Cree with her husband Rio Ferdinand, born in 2020. Kate wrote in the caption, "The last time I was in this hospital I was having Cree, but this time it was because our baby had no heartbeat in our 12-week scan and I had to have surgery."

Kate added, "We were so excited & planning a space for our new baby in our family, we just couldn’t wait to share our news with you all, but unfortunately sometimes life just doesn’t go as we plan."

'Can't find the words'

The reality star wrote that she has so much to say, "but somehow I can’t find the words. Absolutely devastated and heartbroken." She ended the note by thanking her other children for their love and support, which includes Rio's three children from his previous marriage -- Lorenz, 16, Tate, 13, and Tia, 11.

Kate said, "Couldn’t be more grateful for the hugs I got from my big(er) babies coming through the door when we arrived home."

Her comment section was flooded with comments from friends and fans, who offered their support and love to Kate during the tough time. Among them were Kate’s former 'Towie' co-stars Georgia Kousoulou and Sam Faiers, as well as model Lottie Tomlinson and influencer Tia Lineker.

Reality star Chloe Lewis wrote, "Sending my love to you," while Amber Dowding said, "So sorry my lovely, thinking of you all."

Kate and Rio got married in Turkey in 2019 and had been together since early 2017. The couple first met through friends while vacationing in Dubai in January 2017. The couple made their relationship public in August 2017.

The reality TV star is also a proud step-mum to Rio's three children from his marriage to Rebecca Ellison. Rebecca died in 2015 at the age of 34 following a battle with breast cancer.

Speaking on 'My Little Coco' podcast, Kate recalled that Rio had the camera out. She said, "He was taking photos that I am, even when I was pushing there's photos of him with water spray but of himself."

She further added, "I just look back and think this guy is mental." Kate admitted that she was worried as to what Rio would think when she was in the labor room.

Kate said, "I like Rio to see me in a nice way," adding that, "I am rough sometimes - but I wouldn't let him see me in certain states. When I was in this bed, I had the big hospital knickers on, I was just wiped out, I couldn't walk."
