Kanye West tweets and deletes 'DONDA' tracklist, puzzled fans demand a Nicki Minaj collab on 'New Body'
Kanye West shared the tracklist for his 10th studio album 'DONDA' on July 18 via social media but has since deleted his post. West wrote on Twitter that the record, which is named after his late mother, was slated for a release on July 24 and shared what seemed to be the official tracklist written on orange paper. West has been posting similar orange papers on his Twitter which shows off some Roman numeral font style.
On the tracklist, songs such as 'God's Country', '24' and 'Off the Grid' are included along with long-awaited tracks such as 'Hurricane' and 'New Body'. Shortly after making the announcement, West's tweet was removed, leaving fans confused.
'New Body' was a track which was slated to appear on an album titled 'Yhandi', which never saw the light of day. The song features vocals from Ty Dolla Sign and Nicki Minaj. Its original lyrics are about body shaming and the stigma surrounding plastic surgery, but a reworked version of the song, which features Christian-themed lyrics, was later previewed at listening parties for West's previous album 'Jesus Is King'.
In June 2020, after the track became viral on TikTok, Minaj stated that she would contact West about potentially releasing the song, but it was ultimately scrapped from 'Jesus Is King' just before its October 2019 release due to creative differences between West and Minaj. Since being leaked online in July 2019, the track received positive reviews and was noted for being a highlight among other leaked 'Yandhi' songs. Critics have also praised West's reworked Christian lyrics for being more respectful and positive.
Whether West's announcement was legit or not, fans are super keen on hearing 'New Body'. "KANYE’S DROPPING NEW BODY AND HURRICANE ON HIS ALBUM DONDA LEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSSSS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO," said a fan. While another wrote, "KANYE NEEDS TO GO AHEAD AND RELEASE NEW BODY." One fan said, "New body might be coming Friday. omg omg."
Numerous fans are into the track for Minaj and are hoping she will still feature on the potential upcoming release. "Kanye better not think to drop New body without Nicki," said a fan. Another wrote, "'New Body' is basically Nicki's song. So removing her will just be Kanye fumbling his own bag. Won't be surprised." One fan said, "If Kanye knows what’s good for him he’ll release New Body with Nicki and not the solo version."
