Just as anything that a Korean entertainer does in public is noticed by all their fans, it seems like entertainers from the Korean entertainment industry have no privacy left anymore. However, this violation of singer and actor Kang Daniel's privacy unveiled his alleged real personality, fans of the singer claim that the revelation is far from the truth. On July 20, Kang Daniel was under fire online when his personal messages from the Universe App were leaked online by fans. The singer is currently a host on the Mnet variety show 'Street Man Fighter' and had been a decorated host of the series over its last few seasons namely, 'Street Woman Fighter' and its spin-off 'Street Dance Girls Fighter' that aired in 2021.

In a series of screenshots, personal messages from Kang Daniel were released online which showed fans that the singer had a misogynistic attitude toward women when he made sexist remarks, comparing the female dance crews on 'Street Woman Fighter' and how it had been harder for him to host the show in comparison to its male counterpart 'Street Man Fighter'. The singer explained that he knew the male dancers ahead of the show which eased him out and added that they were men which meant there were not many formal interactions with the male dancers on set.

Kang Daniel apologizes for his 'sexist' comments

These comments and many more from Kang Daniel were received badly by Knetz and international fans of the soloist that called him "sexist" for slandering the female contestants and had fans talking about how the male celebrities all had such "anti-feministic" thoughts due to the nature of the South Korean mindset about women. Soon after the controversy blew up, Kang Daniel addressed the issue himself by apologizing for making sexually discriminatory remarks. On July 20, Kang Daniel took to Instagram to make a blank post with the caption, "Hello, this is Kang Daniel. First, I’d like to apologize for the private messages."

He said, "I am sorry for causing unnecessary misunderstanding by exaggerating the meaning of “I was nervous and shaking.” "My response in the situation where I was trying to be wary of promoting or heightening gender conflict was imprudent," he continued. He ends his apology with, "I’m sorry that this whole process hurt my fans, who always care about me and worry about me. From now on, I will be more careful about my remarks and actions."

Fans bring proof to support Kang Daniel

Soon after the scandal blew up, fans started looking for the original source of the messages being leaked online and it was pointed out by fans of Kang Daniel that one of his antifans was to be blamed for the controversy. The said antifan had posted the messages from his chat by cutting out parts of the messages which is why the texts from the soloist were misconstrued. His fans claimed that since people who were looking at the chats did not have context about what he was talking about, they misunderstood Kang Daniel's words. One fan said, "The conversation regarding the ‘eyeliner’ which made kangdaniel into a misogynistic sexist person? It’s all lies, taken out of context.. yes the translation is not 100% right but this is the conversation, he’s not sexist or misogynistic."

They added, "Also the accusation that’s he’s scared of woman? … no, again taken out of context. The translation is very bad here so I will translate using Google. Still not reliable but it serves its purpose that KD ain’t being sexist nor is he being misogynistic."

The fan added, "And this isn’t even the entire conversation because kangdaniel spent almost 2 hours talking to us before attending/getting ready for the BDSA. Obviously whoever read these comments thought it would be great to manipulate the truth of what he said and get people to hate him, Why? Because kangdaniel was nominated for rookie award for ROOKIE COPS."

The fan said, "That anti fan @Jn1nK1KPA9SefvA set up a fake account and bought engagement to drag his name in the mud thinking it would ruin his successful win, but he didn’t win. So why even go through with it? @Jn1nK1KPA9SefvA why do you hate kangdaniel so much for you to lie, use your own money to get people to hate on him? To defame his name.. he didn’t even win? Oh I see, the fact that he was there .. was bad enough for you? Grow up. Live a decent life."

'Fans need to accept he is wrong'

Fans started defending the singer on Twitter as one user said, "If i'm a self respected woman, i would be ashamed to say that i am a fan of kang daniel." To which, one fan of Kang Daniel said, "Im just an ordinary woman who will not jump into conclusions without checking the truth, my idol KangDaniel inspired me to be kind sincere and brave at all times and im so proud to be a Danity, hoping this hater plot wont happen to your fav too."

One fan said, "I would be ashamed as a human if I don't seek the truth and blinded by rumors." On the other hand, other fans pointed out that they were offended by Kang Daniel's use to a derogatory term against women that did not need any context. One fan said, "Men love to be oblivious that they are being sexist and often times retaliate when their sexism is pointed out."

One more fan said, "Tbh I don't have a strong opinion about him either way. Knowing the rise of incel culture among young men it's just truly not surprising when a man has prejudices. I hope women realize their self-worth and would stop defending stupid statements, whether it's out of ignorance or truly sexism. If he's just truly ignorant, then I hope he would reflect on his biases--NOT just being careful with his words, but truly reflect on his prejudice."

Another fan said, "The issue is kinda bigger when it was trending top on naver so its just not on pann's scale anymore, thats why an official apology is needed. Fans need to accept he did wrong this time esp ifans. Tho he deserves critism but its not worth to cancel over. He needs apology (which he did) and self reflecting. Hope he is more careful now with his words."
