'Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police' has made its Billboard debut on the Top 200 (#63), Alternative Album sales (#9), Independent Sales (#13) and Rock (#15) album charts following its release. Hatfield has announced a month-long U.S. tour with dates beginning January 16.

She will perform material from her solo catalog, her most recent album of originals 'Weird' (2019) along with select covers from 'Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John' (2018) and 'Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police'. “The songs I’ve chosen seem to resonate in the present moment”, stated Hatfield of her choice of songs in the process of covering The Police to Rolling Stone.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Hatfield discussed the creative respite she finds in the covers projects: “Whenever I make an album of my own songs, at the end I feel so depleted. I feel like I’ve said everything I have to say and will never write another song. But I don’t want to stop making music. That’s when I go and start looking at other people’s stuff… so I can keep working. Recording covers is like a working vacation. It’s fun, and it also informs my own stuff afterwards”.

According to the Associated Press, “One way to assess a covers record is whether its appeal stretches beyond fans of the re-interpreter to fans of the original performers. In the case of 'Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police', both camps should be pleased… Hatfield usually puts her imprint on the tunes by stripping back some of the gloss and dialing up the darker hues, while keeping the melodies nearly intact and the songs easily recognizable”.
