Is Blackpink's MTV VMAs performance the WORST? Fans call out 'xenophobic journalists'
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: When it comes to K-pop, there are hardly any groups that get as much hate as the YG Entertainment girl group, Blackpink, gets. While they have amassed a large fanbase over the years, the girls often have a hard time with trolls and media pages comparing their every move with other contemporaries like TWICE, BTS, and more. On one hand, Blackpink has the privilege to be the biggest girl group in the world at the moment as they become the first K-pop girl group to record two million pre-orders for their second mini-album, 'Born Pink', the girl group is still being critiqued over their performance at the 2022 MTV VMAs.
Blackpink made their debut at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards where they performed their recently released single, 'Pink Venom', artists like Taylor Swift, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, and more were seen visibly supporting the girls, the four-member girl group is now facing backlash online for their 'lack-luster' performance on the VMA stage. As this was Blackpink's first-ever performance at an American award show, the girl group decided to keep it low-key by only performing one song, the pre-release track from their upcoming full album. However, in a recent article, a USA-based media outlet ranked the girl group's debut performance to be the worst one from the 2022 MTV Award show.

Blackpink's VMA performance scrutinized
While fans praised Blackpink for their professionalism as Lisa managed to fix her minor hiccup with her mic at the start of the girl group's on-stage performance for 'Pink Venom' at the 2022 MTV VMAs, New York Post's new article has triggered fans. In their article, the magazine rated Blackpink as one of the many 'worst' performances from the night alongside Eminem and Snoop Dogg. The only catch here is that the latter's performance was not an in-person stage but a virtual performance featuring the AI versions of the two American rappers.
Blackpink on the other hand, performed at the award show in person which has fans slamming the media page for calling Blackpink the worst performance of the night. When talking about Blackpink's performance, New York Post claimed that performing a rather new song in America was a bad move for Blackpink as many locals in the audience were not yet familiar with the lyrics to 'Pink Venom'. They continued, "The stiff, lifeless performance failed to establish the group as a live force to be reckoned with on the VMAs stage."

'Jealousy is a disease'
Fans allege that the performance was rushed and unplanned which is the real reason why it had some inconsistencies but claim that the Blackpink members still did their best with what they could. Some Blinks (fans of Blackpink) also blamed the smoke machine for ruining the girl group's dance break at the VMA stage as one fan said, "Personally the only thing i didn't like was the amount of smoke but the girls did very well. haters are gonna nitpick on every single thing anyway, they have been getting so much hate on twitter it's ridiculous, jealousy is a disease."
One fan responded, "They had Taylor Swift in the audience singing along to the Korean words, these random (and racist - specifically NYPost) "news publications" literally do not matter whatsoever. The amount of hate BP gets is astronomical, and it will never die down. If BP were to solve world hunger, you'd still have people nitpicking them asking why they couldn't cure AIDS or something." One fan said, "Lets be all honest here , the performance is great , the song is not just public friendly to new audiences."
One fan said, "Honestly their performance was different from the others bc its kpop obviously it will be a different type of stage, so that article is giving xenophobia idk. but the girls really killed it, esp jennie and lisa." Another fan said, "Journalists are xenophobic so no wonder they write negative articles." One more fan said, "They looked good but the performance did lack energy and it there was no real stage presence."
