Who is Josh Harris from 'Deadliest Catch'? Co-captain of the Cornelia Marie has his own spin-off show
For the captains on the 'Deadliest Catch', their fishing vessels are truly an extension of their own legacies. Each vessel becomes synonymous with its captain. And for Josh Harris, he definitely had big shoes to fill in after the death of his father, Captain Phil Harris.
Harris' journey to secure his spot at the helm of the Cornelia Marie has not been easy. Between struggling to buy the vessel to finally co-captaining it, Harris has had his fair share of struggles.

Securing the Cornelia Marie was no easy feat
When Captain Harris joined the 'Deadliest Catch' back in Season 8, he was a part of the crew of the Time Bandit. Even back then, Captain Harris was known to have spoken about how he dreamed of owning his own vessel.
However, during his initial time on the vessel, Harris didn't take up much responsibility, his indifference seemed to conflict with his dreams. However, a lot of that changed after his father, Phil Harris, the captain of the Cornelia Marie died in 2010. Phil suffered a massive stroke while on the job.
Although he made significant improvements, he ultimately died 10 days after his initial stroke. With a legacy left behind, his son, Josh rose to the occasion, seeing that suddenly, there was a lot at stake. Harris went on to get his captain's license in 2013 and that year, went on to become the skipper on the boat during fishing season.
Along with his brother, Jake, the two tried to keep the ship up and running. But with Cornelia Marie in dire need of repairs and with no funds in sight, the pair heavily relied on investors to keep them afloat. Jake ultimately took time to deal with his drug addiction.
In an interview with TV Showcase, he spoke about his brother and his battle with addictions. "Jake is actually doing really well. He had to go away for some of the crimes he committed there for a little bit and, going on five months now, " he said. "He had one hiccup in five months and it was a very small hiccup, so no… he’s doing really good," he explained.
"He’s got a good attitude and he’s definitely doing things that I thought I would never see in a lifetime. I talked to him about every other day," he added. "I’ve got high hopes for him. If he continues this upward track and with the treatment and stuff, he might have himself a spot on the Cornelia Marie again," he concluded. Josh currently captains the Cornelia Marie along with Captain Casey McManus.
He's quite the doting dad
In his 2013 book, titled 'Captain Phil Harris: The Legendary Crab Fisherman, Our Hero, Our Dad', he spoke about his father's addiction problem.
"Pharmaceutical quality Peruvian flake cocaine and high-grade strains of cannabis were the way Phil rolled," Harris said, in a conversation with the Daily Mail, pointing out that their relationship was far from perfect.
However, when it comes to his role as a father to his daughter Kinsley Ella, he gushes about his little girl. "She’s seven going on 30. She has me wrapped around her little finger. Yes. She’s a really good manipulator," he added. "Way too smart, at seven years old. I remember I was kicking cans around the road and stuff and she is watching documentaries and how to operate on dogs and cats." He explained.
What's his net worth?
From owning the Cornelia Marie to running it, Harris has not had an easy journey but works tirelessly none the less. Apart from his fishing career and being a TV personality, he is also a published author, having co-authored a book with his brother, 'Captain Phil Harris: The Legendary Crab Fisherman, Our Hero, Our Dad', with the help of journalists, Steve Springer and Blake Chavez.
His current net worth is $800,000, as reported by Celebrity Net Worth. He is also the star of 'Deadliest Catch: Bloodline', a series that has him decoding the fishing charts and notes made by his late father in the 80s that leads him and Captain Casey McManus to Hawaii.
