John Travolta skips 'Grease' series premiere in honor of late co-star Olivia Newton-John's wishes
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Travolta reportedly gave a miss to the premiere of ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies', which is a prequel to the movie ‘Grease’. The event took place on March 29 at the Hollywood American Legion Post 43 and was attended by all of its actors.
But the 69-year-old preferred not to go to the launch of the new Paramount+ prequel TV series as a source revealed to RadarOnline.com, “John is super protective of the original, more so now that Olivia Newton-John has passed.” The casting director of ‘Grease’ Joel Thurm stated that the late star and Travolta had “passed on everything pertaining to sequels or sequel-like things. Why be part of something that could never be as good as the original?”

‘They definitely had a spark’
Thurm had earlier said, “There was never anything untoward or romantic or stuff like that, but there was a great deal of mutual respect and friendship that lasted forever. They definitely had a spark.”
This comes after Newton John's death on August 8, 2022, following years of struggle with breast cancer. Her husband John Easterling issued a statement at the time that read, “Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
‘A symbol of triumphs and hope’
“Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continue with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the @onjfoundation,” the Instagram post read.
It added, “Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall.”
The social media share left the legend's fans in grief. “Heartbroken. 💔 The world has lost a brightly shining light. She had a heart of pure gold. Thank you Olivia for your unforgettable music and for your endless caring, compassion and dedication to those on their cancer journey and to so many other causes you supported. I hope your soul is singing sweetly in a place filled with pure love and no pain,” a comment read, while another added, “What a wonderful spirit in person and artist! I remember hearing her very first hit years ago when it came out and I followed her career throughout. Such a brave soul to fighting her breast cancer rest in peace.”
Travolta also shared a post for the actress as he noted, “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”
