'Jeopardy!' fans TROLL Ken Jennings for accepting incorrect response in 'dumb category'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: There’s no doubt that ‘Jeopardy!’ is one of the most interesting quiz game shows in the world, but there are times when something really dumb takes place during the game and you are beyond surprised as to how that even happened. One such moment took place in the latest episode of the game show when Ken Jennings, the show’s host, accepted a couple of ‘incorrect answers’ in the new category that has now been deemed ‘dumb’ by viewers.
In the latest episode of 'Jeopardy!', viewers saw returning champion Jesse Matheny going against Eric and Rebecca to win the game. Jennings introduced the category ‘A_B_C_D’ and explained that “each response will have those four letters in that order.” The returning champ chose the $800 clue which said, “It’s a long way of saying vitamin C.”

Jesse messed up with 'Ascorbic's pronunciation
After thinking for a while, Jesse responded by saying, “What is Asorbic acid?” As soon as he said that, Jennings took a long pause before saying, “Yeah, we'll take that; I think the "C" is pronounced.” Fans were left appalled by Jennings’ decision because the correct pronunciation of the word is “Ascorbic” and not “Asorbic.” On the other hand, a lot of viewers believed that the clue itself was wrong because the first “C” comes before the “B” in the correct response of “Ascorbic” and before asking the first question, Jennings said that each response will be in the order of “A_B_C_D.”
But if you believe that this was the only bizarre moment in the latest episode, then you are wrong. As the episode progressed, Jennings continued asking questions and for $1000, he asked, “If you "go" this 7-word phrase, you've exceeded what your obligations require.” Eric was really confident in giving the answer to this question and said, “What is above the call of duty?” However, his answer was deemed incorrect because the correct answer to that question was “above and beyond the call of duty.”
Fans didn't take long to deem this category 'dumb'
Viewers didn’t leave any stone unturned to troll the host and said that this ‘dumb’ category should be thrown out of the show. One of the fans wrote, “Why doesn’t ‘above the call of duty’ work? It’s ABCD.” Another social media user noted, “Jeez. Asorbic should not have been an accepted response. It’s ASCORBIC. It is not pronounced any other way.” Another fan tweeted, “I didn’t hear the ‘c’ from Jesse’s response of ascorbic acid. I heard ‘asorbic’ acid.” Another social media user wrote, “That was just a dumb category, and hope it gets tossed in the categorical ashcan, bin, scrapheap or dumpster.” Another social media user wrote on Reddit, “Ascorbic acid is the other name for Vitamin C, which is what the clue asked for. The first "c" isn't optional, that's how the name is spelled.” Another person responded on Reddit, “Right, but he didn't pronounce the first "c" -- the ruling hinges on whether "asorbic" is a reasonable (mis)pronunciation.”

#jeopardy. I didn't hear the "c" from Jesse's response of ascorbic acid. I heard "asorbic" acid. 🤔

As per the official website of ‘Jeopardy,’ the answers given by the players “must be phonetically correct and not add or subtract any extraneous sounds or syllables.” This means that ‘Asorbic Acid’ was an incorrect answer.
Let’s see if the makers or Jennings will address this matter or not in the coming weeks.
