Better Call Saul’ knows how to break everyone’s hearts and the show did exactly that with last night’s episode. Episode 9, titled ‘Fun and Games’, was all about forgetting things that happened in Saul and Kim’s lives recently. First, they saw Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian) getting murdered in their living room, and second, they received the news of Lalo (Tony Dalton) getting killed for real this time around. They were devastated and didn’t know what to do, but Mike told them to be normal and that if the police asks them about Howard they just need to tell them that Howard was “high” on drugs.

In the final moments of the episode, we saw another side of Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), a side that’s completely opposite of who she really is. She bluntly lies on Howard’s wife's face and told him a story where Kim saw Howard snorting something in his office. Even Howard’s partner also recognized how he saw packets of cocaine in his locker at the club. The scene concluded with Kim kissing Saul (Bob Odenkirk) and leaving him. To everyone, it felt like a “goodbye kiss” and it turned out to be exactly that.

Fans were left devastated when Kim and Saul decided to separate and it was truly the end of an era. Not just fans, even Rhea Seehorn, who portrays Kim Wexler on the show, was left speechless when she read the part and revealed that the moment felt like a “gut punch”.

In a recent interview with TV Guide, the actress revealed how devastating it was for her to shoot that scene and thought that Kim leaving law was actually a masterstroke by the writers. She said, “It's devastating. Yeah, it's a gut punch. And I think it is for Kim as well. This is an extraordinarily difficult decision. I love that they've paired it with her leaving the law because I think that magnifies even more how much she cannot live in her own skin anymore.”

People were flabbergasted when Kim announced that she is quitting law and won’t be a part of any case going forward. Saul was really annoyed when he heard that and tried convincing her to re-join the practice. However, he gets the shock of a lifetime when he saw Kim packing her stuff to leave him. Saul said, “I love you”, to which, Kim responded by saying, “I love you, too. But so what?” She went on to say that they are “toxic” to each other and everyone around them. By saying those words, Kim left Saul and we saw the end of one of the weirdest yet engaging love stories.

Seehorn also stated that the crew of ‘Better Call Saul’ had to go out and take a walk after watching the cuts of the episode because it was just so painful. She added, “We had post-production people calling and saying they were watching cuts and they had to go take a walk around the block. It just hurt too much to watch. I was like, 'That's fantastic!’”
The actress also made it clear that Kim didn’t have a plan while packing her stuff and it all happened spontaneously after seeing the ugly version of herself.

It was a bittersweet ending for both characters as Kim finally left everything to start afresh while Saul, after suffering a massive heartbreak, went on to become a highly successful lawyer and we see that as the show takes a time jump at the end of ‘Fun and Games’. With only four episodes remaining and almost all the major players out of the equation, ‘Better Call Saul’ is slowly inching toward its conclusion and we can’t wait how the show transitions to the universe of ‘Breaking Bad’.

However, Seehorn is having the time of her life as she just got nominated for her first-ever Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category.

‘Better Call Saul’ returns to AMC with a new episode every Monday at 9 pm EST.
