Prime Video moves forward with its long-delayed crime thriller series and Amanda Seyfried is leading it
Amanda Seyfried's star is on the rise! The Oscar and Golden Globe nominee has her slate full of upcoming projects in the pipeline, the chief among them being Prime Video's adaptation of Florida author Carl Hiaasen's 2004 novel, 'Skinny Dip'. Deadline reports that work on 'Skinny Dip' is currently progressing at Prime Video, and Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis of 'Once Upon A Time' fame are serving as executive producers, in association with Bill Lawrence.
The television adaptation of 'Skinny Dip' has had a somewhat protracted journey over the last couple of years. HBO was developing the show for the first time back in 2011 and had Michael Keaton and the executive producer on board. Cut to 2018, The CW picked up the show, and the network ordered a pilot episode that brought together Garret Lerner and Russel Friend with Sarah Wright Olsen as the primary talent. After even this ran out of steam, the now extinct mobile app Quibi was said to have teamed up with the same players, but not much came out of it. The show arrived at HBO Max earlier this year and had Horowitz, Kitsis, and Lawrence on board, though no actors were attached at the time.
Finally, after Prime Video's green signal, Seyfried will be portraying the leading character of Joey Perrone, as per The Hollywood Reporter. The official synopsis of the upcoming Prime Video show reads, "Skinny Dip is the story of Joey Perrone, whose second anniversary didn't go quite as planned. She expected earrings, but instead, her husband Chaz had, shall we say, alternate plans. After unexpectedly finding herself on the other side of those plans, she vows to get revenge. Teaming up with a disgraced ex-cop, Joey sets out to make Chaz pay. Skinny Dip is an action-romantic-comedy-triangle about murder, vengeance, and the elusiveness of true accountability in this world."
As per ScreenRant, Hiaasen is also associated with the project as an executive producer, along with Liza Katzer and Jeff Ingold of Doozer Productions. The author already has two of his other works adapted for television, i.e, 'Bad Monkey' on Apple TV+ starring Vince Vaughn and the upcoming 'RJ Decker' on ABC. The latter is based on the Hiaasen novel 'Double Whammy' and is set to arrive sometime next year.
Seyfried's career is currently at a juncture where the near future seems full of possibilities. She will be seen in the upcoming titles 'The Testament of Ann Lee' and 'The Housemaid' as both of them have impending release dates this month. Her performance on the Apple TV+ show 'The Crowded Room' and on Peacock's 'Long Bright River' was much praised. She has bagged an Emmy for her portrayal of Elizabeth Holmes on the Hulu show 'The Dropout'. She was previously nominated for the Academy Award for her supporting role in David Fincher's 'Mank'.
