'Avengers: Doomsday' trailer release hits setback as insider delivers disappointing update
Marvel fans waiting for the 'Avengers: Doomsday' trailer have been met with some disappointing news. Many were excited to see the classic MCU heroes join forces with the new generation of superheroes, with high expectations that the much-awaited trailer would be released on Friday, December 19, alongside 'Avatar: Fire and Ash.' Rumor mills were also buzzing with speculations that the trailer might arrive earlier than expected. However, now, sources have confirmed that fans will have to wait a bit longer for the trailer.
Fans speculated the trailer could arrive on Thursday, December 11, especially after it was rated in Korea and Marvel uploaded a private video on YouTube. However, insider Grace Randolph says the Disney trailer is "no longer coming out tomorrow." Randolph revealed, "I just heard that Disney trailer, which wasn't necessarily [Avengers: Doomsday], which is no longer coming out tomorrow," as per The Direct. Fans expected the trailer to drop on Thursday, also because DC's 'Supergirl' trailer was initially expected to release on December 10.
However, DC confirmed 'Supergirl' will debut on Thursday, December 11, leading fans to speculate that Disney delayed its own trailer to avoid clashing with DC's release. Randolph also noted that Disney's upcoming trailer may not even be for 'Avengers: Doomsday', since the studio has several other films that could be next in line. Disney’s mysterious trailer probably is for 'The Mandalorian & Grogu'. Since the sci-fi flick releases in May 2026 and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is drawing big audiences, Disney may also plan to attach trailers for both 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'The Mandalorian & Grogu' to the new Avatar movie to grab public attention.
Other possibilities include the first full trailer for 'Toy Story' 5, which only has a teaser so far, or a trailer for 'Hexed', Disney Animation's next original film following 'Zootopia 2'. Notably, Marvel Studios will also re-release 'Avengers: Endgame' in theaters on September 25, 2026, three months before 'Avengers: Doomsday' arrives on December 18, 2026. The timing serves as both a refresher for audiences, since the last Avengers film debuted seven years earlier, and a strategic push to potentially help 'Endgame' surpass 'Avatar' as the highest-grossing film ever, with the two currently separated by about $124.3 million, as per Screen Rant.
Not only that, but reports suggest that Chris Evans will make a comeback as Captain America in Doomsday, exploring timeline/multiverse consequences. The Russo Brothers have also confirmed that Iron Man's death remains a part of Avengers: Doomsday's story, ensuring the original Avengers' presence resonates in the 2026 film.
