NEW YORK, NEW YORK CITY: Johnny Depp has shaved off his trademark beard, and he practically looks unrecognizable now. 'The Pirates of the Carribean' actor, 59, is currently on tour with his friend and Grammy-winning guitarist Jeff Beck. His brand-new clean-shaven appearance has already caused quite the storm on social media.

Depp was frequently seen in court only a few months ago during his widely televised defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard and looked drastically different then. The contrast is so stark that Twitter users are likening his new visage to that a totally unexpected public figure - pop icon Madonna.

While the ‘Fantastic Beasts' actor's dramatic transformation appeared to confuse fans who waited outside the venue to welcome him, Twitter users are equally befuddled. The latter group have not held back at all, with some even going so far as to accuse the legend of going under the knife.

One user tweeted, "What is going on with celebrity plastic surgeons these days? Madonna, Johnny Depp, Gwen Stefani, Zac Efron… yikes." Another user retweeted a recent tiktok video posted by Madonna with the caption, "That's not Madonna that's Johnny depp." Another noted on the same video, "Why does she look like johnny depp dressed up as madonna." Someone else quipped, "Looks like Johnny Depp playing Madonna for a movie."

Meanwhile, the much-loved actor found time to pose beside his fans - who had patiently waited for a face-to-face - after his gig with Beck ended. He signed autographs, spoke with admireres, and smiled in pictures with them. The actor's recent transformation comes on the heels of the news that the explosive defamation case involving him and Amber Heard would soon be the subject of a new film.

The film, entitled 'Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial', will explore the turbulent relationship between the stars. It will make its premiere exclusively on the free Tubi streaming service on September 30. Mark Hapka plays Depp and Megan Davis plays Heard. eanwhile, Camille Vasquez will be played by Melissa Marty, while Marry Carrig essays Elaine Bredehoft.

While Depp is enjoying his time embracing his musical side, Heard was spotted in Mallorca, and it has been said that she is attempting to "avoid the spotlight by living under a pseudonym at a beautiful home."
