Is GOT7 Jinyoung’s Babi not the main lead? K-drama fans upset with 'Yumi's Cells 2' breakup

K-drama viewers distraught as Go-eun's Yumi breaks up with Babi in episode 9 of the rom-com

Following the success of the webtoon ‘Yumi’s Cells’ and season 1 of its K-drama edition, we got a season 2 that is ongoing. While GOT7’s Jinyoung played Babi aka Bobby, a supporting role who catches Yumi’s eye while she’s dating Goo Woong in season 1, the idol actor became the main lead in season 2. After Yumi is disillusioned with love following her breakup with Woong, she finds love again by opening her heart to Babi in ‘Yumi’s Cells 2’. The season 1 couple was cute and awkward whereas the season 2 couple was adorable and romantic.

We got tons of cute scenes between Jinyoung’s Babi and Kim Go-eun’s Yumi right up till ‘Yumi’s Cells 2’ episode 9. Ahn Bo-hyun’s Goo Woong returns as the ex who continues to pine and support Yumi from afar. Another wrench is thrown into the K-drama as Shin Ye-eun’s Daeun finds herself in a one-sided love with Babi. With Ye-eun and Jinyoung reuniting for a second K-drama following ‘He Is Psychometric’, fans were excited to see the onscreen couple again but torn as they were invested in Babi and Yumi’s relationship.

Babi and Yumi break up

While ‘Yumi’s Cells 2’ is set to end by episode 14, Babi and Yumi break up in episode 9. We see Babi fall for a fleeting second for Daeun after she confesses to him. When Yumi tries to break up, GOT7’s Jinyoung proves his mettle as an actor in the heart-wrenching scene where he asks her not to go. “Nothing happened, really. I still love you,” says a teary Babi. However, Yumi ends up leaving. K-drama fans were torn as they considered Babi a cheater for liking Daeun back. Meanwhile, Babi supporters called out Yumi for meeting Woong after the breakup while Babi struggles.

Fans who also like the traditional K-drama format were disappointed as GOT7’s Jinyoung and Kim Go-eun promoted the show together as the main leading couple from photoshoots to interviews. And with the storyline of Jinyoung’s Babi probably ending before the drama is even done, it had fans disappointed. But webtoon readers have been giving spoilers to assure Babi fans that his storyline is not over as they hope that ‘Yumi’s Cells 2’ follows the source material where Babi ends up with another character.

'It doesn't make sense'

A webtoon fan tweeted, “Soonrok and webtoon stans after finding out that yumi and babi broke up #YumisCells2.” Another fan explained, “SPOILER: It won’t be Woong nor will it be Babi. The story revolves around Yumi and her growth after lessons learned from her life experiences in general, but mostly from these two relationships. And in her growth, Yumi is to move forward not back to either men.”

One joked, “Some yumi’s cells viewers want to know more of babi’s POV and i honestly think you’ll get more disappointed about men if we do get that. Lol.” Another explained, “Babi, you should’ve been honest with your feelings. yumi hates a boyfriend who gets swayed by other women even the least bit. it’s her top dating rule.” But one fan asked, "Never seen a non endgame romcom (?) ship being promoted on this level before like what beef do they have with us I just wanna know cause like WHAT WAS THE POINT."

One fan made a meme, “Me trying to stop babi from cheating on yumi.” Another hoped, “It doesn't make sense to make this lovely couple to breakup just like that. Make them sit down together, poured out their hearts, crying sobbing, make Yumi punch Babi or what. I need explanation.” One added, “Me: babi and Yumi look so in love and natural in the bts footage they’re endgame The directors:.”

Another was torn, “Honestly i can't be angry at any of them ...Yumi had all the right to lose trust & break up ; but babi also didn't act on his feelings towards daeun & stayed loyal ...he didn't deserve to be cut in his first mistake.” One fan pointed out, “Yumi remembered Babi offered his jacket too while she was with Woong and wondered if Babi liked her then. Hence, her question. If yes, then the gesture was a sign of his feelings. Which would also then prove her doubts about Babi’s feelings for Daeun.”

Babi fans were disappointed, “So Babi is just soneone who comes into Yumi's life shows her dream, her future, loves her till the core ,understands her ,comforts her, does anything for her AND gets dumped at the end. Wow... we know nothing about him outside his part in Yumi's life.” Another said, “Remember when Yumi was in a relationship with Woong, she's always on guard that every man she encountered looks like this to her???? Well, Yoo Babi can't relate. ㅠㅠ.”

One fan was angry at the lack of Babi POVs, “Goo woong: yumi's ex bf who fell in love at first sight with yumi. a game developer who can't stand having his pride hurt. looks like he doesn't shower sometimes but he's good! he tries very hard to keep his girl best friend away but it was too hard uwu babi: yumi's handsome bf.” Another said, “So yumi meets her ex bf after breaking up with babi and babi is the only one suffering after the unnecessary breakup but somehow babi is the one labeled as the bad guy/ cheater I'm so mad at this i don't even want to continue watching it.” One fan wrote, "If jinyoung and goeun don't end up together in yumse I need them to do another drama you cannot promote their chemistry to me like crazy and then not give me an endgame I won't accept it."
