CBS eyes new ‘Fire Country’ spinoff after ‘Sheriff Country’ success—this time with a medical twist
CBS’ ‘Fire Country’ and ‘Sheriff Country’ are getting another spinoff show. According to an exclusive update published on Tuesday, the franchise has an untitled medical drama in the works. It will be set in the fictional town of Edgewater. Located in Northern California, the town will have a comparatively smaller population of approximately 25,000. Furthermore, it might feature a character, possibly from 'Sheriff Country’s' upcoming season. The storyline for the upcoming spinoff will revolve around a medical team from Edgewater. However, the drama is yet to be ''officially pitched'' to CBS.
As of now, the medical drama is still in the early stages, so the scriptwriting team has not yet been decided. Seeing how it would be a ‘Sheriff Country’ spinoff, it might involve executive producers and showrunners from both ‘Sheriff Country’ and ‘Fire Country.’ This includes Matt Lopez, who serves as the latter’s executive producer and showrunner. Additional team members might include co-creators and executive producers Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, and Tony Phelan. Along with them, franchise producers, including Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed from Jerry Bruckheimer Television, might also join the team of executive producers.
Fans must remember when ‘Fire Country’ debuted in 2023, CBS’s then-president and CEO, George Cheeks, hinted at the possible expansion of the firefighter drama into a franchise. A few months later, CBS introduced Morena Baccarin (playing Mickey Fox) in ‘Fire Country’ Season 2. Since then she has played the lead role in ‘Sheriff Country.’ Moving forward CBS and CBS Studios started exploring the possibilities and potential spinoffs of the franchise. Viewers often saw ‘Fire Country’ featuring various first responders, as well as other medical professionals. They are featured as guest characters throughout various episodes. However, as of now, it is unclear which characters might be exploring their storylines and crossing paths with the newly proposed medical spinoff story. Apart from that, CBS had earlier explored the possibility of another ‘Fire Country’ spinoff with Jared Padalecki in the lead. It was given a working title, ‘Fire Country: Surfside.’ The storyline is expected to revolve around firefighter drama based in another city.
As of now, ‘Sheriff Country’ has debuted, while ‘Fire Country’ is currently airing its Season 4. For the fans who might not know, ‘Fire Country’ Season 4 has been ranked as #1 most watched new series of its freshman series. Following that, ‘Sheriff Country’ had also been ranked as #2 new series, closely followed by ‘Marshals’, another CBS drama. ‘Fire Country’ and ‘Sheriff Country’ both have been renewed for their upcoming seasons, respectively. It would be exciting to see ‘Sheriff Country’s second season and the newly introduced characters. It is because one or some of those characters might be leading the upcoming medical spinoff.
