Is Boldy James OK? Rapper hospitalized with critical injuries after Detroit car crash

DETROIT, MICHIGAN: James Clay Jones III, popularly known by his stage name Boldy James, recently met with an accident in his hometown Detroit. According to a statement issued by Boldy's rep on January 14, the rapper was involved in a serious two-car accident in the Detroit metropolitan area on Monday, January 9, leaving him in critical condition. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with a broken vertebra and orthopedic injuries but is now in stable condition.

After the official statement was released, rapper Westside Gunn took to Twitter asking people to keep Boldy, his friend and fellow Griselda Records artist, in their prayers. Twitter users subsequently expressed their concern for the artist's well-being. Before his accident, Boldy, 40, was gearing up to release his new project, an EP titled 'ADU', produced entirely by Real Bad Man. The EP was scheduled to release on January 16.

In 2022, Boldy released four albums: 'Killing Nothing' with Real Bad Man in May, 'Fair Exchange No Robbery' with Nicholas Craven in September, 'Mr Ten08' with Futurewave in November, and 'Be That as It May' with Cuns in December. Additionally, Boldy was supposed to release an album titled 'Drug Dilla' this year, with unheard production from the late J Dilla.

Is rapper Boldy James OK?

"On Monday, January 9th, Boldy James was involved in a serious two-car accident in the Detroit metropolitan area. I can confirm that Boldy arrived at the hospital in critical condition, suffering from broken vertebrae in his neck and orthopedic injuries. After undergoing extensive surgery on his neck, Boldy has been removed from the intensive care unit and is now in stable condition," said the official statement from Boldy's rep. 

The statement added, "Boldy and his family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses that are taking care of him, and also to the communities’ emergency medical personnel and first responders." 

The statement was posted on Boldy's Instagram account with the caption, "Your prayers are greatly appreciated thanks everyone for all your support the calls text messages I seen them all just keep me in your prayers on this journey as I continue to heal with my family. Thank you god."



 

Rapper Westside Gunn responded to the statement and called Boldy a "strong soul" and a "fighter" in his tweet, "I was waiting until the official statement to be released please keep my brother in y’all prayers he’s a strong soul and fighter he’s still talking bout GXFR x 227 forever!!! Just hearing them words broke me down but GOD IS THE GREATEST and BO gonna be better than ever," wrote the rapper.



 

Boldy's fans were devastated by the news and prayed for his speedy recovery, "Man i skipped a breathe reading this Boldy gotta pull through!" wrote a user. "Awful news, Boldy is the hardest working artist in any music if you ask me. Prayers up Boldy," added another.



 



 

Another user wrote, "Prayers up for Bo. Detroits finest needs your love and energy right now. We sending angels to your bedside, godspeed on your recovery Bo, the city loves and needs you." "I teared up hearing this news I'm sorry," someone else said.



 



 

On Saturday, Real Bad Man posted an Instagram Story saying that Boldy "would be back in no time." "Been in touch with BOLDY and family all week. It's been hard not to post anything. He'll be back at it in no time. We all know from Boldy's musical output, that guy can't be stopped...Nothing but positive vibrations," RBM wrote. Boldy's new project with Real Bad Man, 'ADU' is supposed to release on January 16.
