Billy Bob Thornton breaks his silence on 'Landman' exit reports: 'I'm signed up for...'
Following the stellar finale of 'Landman' Season 2, fans are eagerly awaiting what's next for Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton). Season 2 ended with Tommy being fired by Cami Miller (Demi Moore) from M-Tex Oil. The high point of the finale comes when Tommy successfully launches his own independent oil company, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle. While the stage is set for Tommy's rise in the oil business, unexpected rumors suggest that Thornton may be leaving the show.
Thornton dismissed rumors of leaving 'Landman', calling them "AI-generated c**p," according to USA Today. Thornton said, "There's an AI report that Demi and I are a couple now, and there's one that I'm leaving the show. They have nothing to do with reality." In another interview with Esquire, Thornton laughed off the fan theories suggesting he is leaving the show. "I don't see that stuff. I'm signed up for like five years or something, so as long as they want me, I'll be there," said Thornton.
The actor also discussed fan reactions to Tommy's firing on 'Landman' Season 2 finale, saying, "My wife actually sent me a video this morning, and it was one of those AI things. It's insane how they can take your voice and your face and make it look like it's you talking. It was a review, like I'm giving a review [of Landman], where I'm taking the piss out of Taylor. I thought, wow, people can just make this stuff up. Sometimes people don't get the context, but now they can actually have you on screen saying things that you never said in your life. It was astounding to me."
He added, "There's another one that shows me and Demi [Moore] romantically involved. I sent it to her, and we were both laughing, texting each other. She and I go back to 1989 together. I've known her forever and watched her kids grow up, so I think we would've gotten to it sooner than now. But one way or the other, it was entertaining, like, isn't this silly? Then this sort of outrage came, and it was like, 'How can they do this without being sued for slander?' It's so weird."
Thornton further discussed working with Taylor Sheridan on 'Landman', saying, "We talk things over. We have a pretty easy relationship. I trust him, and he trusts me. I mean, there have been a couple scenes when I read them, and I was like, 'Really?' There's a very much-talked-about scene in the season in a hotel room, and when I first read it, I was like, 'You got to be kidding me.' But we got in there and thought, 'Well, how do we make this real to us?' We took it on as a challenge, and we did it. The great thing about this show is there's always humor."
