SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: The Internet is firmly standing with a woman who refused to pay for an expensive dress that was ruined by one of her bridesmaids. Explaining the situation, the 25-year-old woman noted that she is soon going to get married and her future husband requested her to include his first cousin Kacy, 23, in the wedding as her bridesmaid.

"I told all three bridesmaids that I'd pay for their dresses," the woman wrote in a post on ‘AITA’ subreddit. She added, "At the appointment, the girls picked a few dresses from the display models upfront. The sales associate explained that she would go to the back and pull the ready-to-try dresses, and that going up 1-2 sizes is normal for formalwear." The soon-to-be bride explained that a sales associate brought some dresses in the trail area where Kacy felt irritated because she fell in the plus line, which started at size 18. Despite the associate’s warnings, the first cousin kept arguing and refused to try on anything above a 14.

'Strongly cautioned against trying smaller dresses'

"Kacy has always squeezed herself into tight-fitting clothes and is very focused on (in her words) 'unfair' and 'misleading' sizing between brands, refusing to see that in reality, she's about a size 18 or 20 (so 22 to 24 in formal wear)," the user further wrote in the post. The woman was on the other side of the store when a sales associate pulled her aside and told her that she has to pay $250 as damage for a dress that Kacy ripped while secretly trying it on. "When I went to talk to Kacy, I found her struggling to zip a too-small dress, and the size 14 dress (the one she grabbed) was hanging up and had burst open at the side," she wrote.

The user respectfully informed Kacy that she was responsible for covering the costs of the damages, but Kacy insisted that it was her responsibility to do so. "We went back and forth unproductively as John's mother and aunt came back over, and one of the other bridesmaids told me that the sales associate had strongly cautioned against trying smaller dresses. I told her that there was no way in hell she was a size 14, and I don't care if she believes it out in the real world, but for the purposes of this trip and my wedding I needed her to accept that," the soon-to-be bride continued.

Kacy then angrily rushed into the dressing room and refused to come out as her mother requested the user to pay for the damages. "My bridesmaids backed me up but Kacy's aunt (and to a certain extent John's mother) essentially said that Kacy wouldn't be there around these dresses in the first place if it wasn't for me. Kacy's mom ultimately paid for the damaged dress," the user concluded.

'I'd kick her out as a bridesmaid'

The future bride’s post has since garnered immense social media attention with many users supporting her decision. "NTA. You offered to pay for their dresses, not what they damaged. Her irresponsibility is not your responsibility," one user wrote. "I’d kick her out as a bridesmaid at this point too. She sounds like she’s going to cause more trouble before the wedding is done," the second user added. Whilst, someone noted, "No, NTA. But Kacy is. We all know, these dresses are expensive. Put the word wedding to it and the price doubles in a heartbeat. And Kacy was warned." Further, another user wrote, "I mean what is Kacy’s Aunt’s logic? If I took someone to a DIY store and they pick up a hammer and hurt themselves being stupid - why would that be my fault?"
