Spoilers for 'I Know This Much Is True' Episode 6

The HBO series 'I Know This Much Is True,' is a heavy emotional ride as they bring mental health, family secrets, daunting pasts and issues of racism to the forefront of an already heartbreaking story. The finale episode was much awaited as Mark Ruffalo's performance has been anticipated weekly since the series debuted. The six episodes of the show promise to take you into the lives of twin brothers Dominick and Thomas Birdsey, both played excellently by Ruffalo as we see how Dominick fares when taking care of Thomas who has Paranoid Schizophrenia. From Thomas's breakdown resulting in him chopping off his arm in the library to the brutal things Dominick has had to endure in his life, most episodes brought many many tears.

"#IKnowThisMuchIsTrue left me emotionally and mentally drained, not to mention its an engaging watch/artfully done miniseries," with another tweeting, "Emotion all over the place. #IKnowThisMuchIsTrue #iktmit #IKTMITHBO."

"#IKnowThisMuchIsTrue about to go all in on this episode!!! @MarkRuffalo you are an absolute genius!!! I’ve never felt this emotional attachment to a show... Best drama miniseries of all time!" said another fan.

The series does have many triggers such as suicide, depression and mental health, leaving the heart a bit heavy after every watch. Needless to say, today's finale brought together a story that had been unfolding for five episodes, leaving fans satisfied. "I’m very pleased with the ending. I’m happy with the symbolism and I’m thrilled Dominick seemed to find peace again and happiness and Dessa found their way back to one another again #IKnowThisMuchIsTrue," tweeted a fan. Another one wrote, "You wouldn't believe how much & how many times i cried this last episode #IKnowThisMuchIsTrue."

The story is definitely heartbreaking but its sheer excellence had fans tuning in every Sunday to find out what Dominick's next move was. The series has touched many hearts and we're all hoping for a Season 2 where we see Dominick heal from the loss of his brother and mother and make something of the family he has left - he ex-wife Dessa Constantine (Kathryn Hahn) and his step-father Ray Birdsey (John Procaccino). Dominick can not add another member to his family, after he found out from Ray that his father was Henry Drinkwater, making Ralph Drinkwater, the man who had helped Dominic get Thomas out of the HATCH forensic institute, his cousin. It was a finale that brought solace to not only characters on the show, but also the fans watching.

"Every single moment of this series was absolute gold. What a journey. Relentlessly heartbreaking. Deeply moving and beautiful. Best Series of 2020.   #DerekCianfrance #HBO #IKnowThisMuchIsTrue," tweeted a fan. Another fan said, "#IKnowThisMuchIsTrue is the most devastating show I’ve seen years. Probably not the best time to consume these 6 episodes but wow. You will feel things. All the things."

The finale of 'I Know This Much Is True' aired Sunday, June 14 at 9 pm EST on HBO.
