'Growling and yelling': Hugh Jackman reveals how playing Marvel’s Wolverine damaged his vocal range
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Back in 2015 when Hugh Jackman suffered a vocal hemorrhage, the 'Deadpool' star then 47 had to cancel all engagements in Istanbul Turkey. In 2017 he ignored doctors' advice against singing in 'The Greatest Showman' after skin cancer was removed from his nose.
The 54-year-old Australian singer, actor, and dancer revealed that he has done some damage to his voice by playing in Wolverine. "My teacher at drama school would have been horrified by some of the things I did in Wolverine." Hugh Jackman told BBC Radio 4.

"I’ve done some damage to my voice, through playing Wolverine. My falsetto is not as strong as it used to be, and I put that down directly to some of the growlings and yelling I did," the 'Logan' star told the station.
This comes after he denied taking steroids for his role as "Wolverine". In a January interview, he said he would eat "more chickens" and resorted to reading about wolves, ahead of his role in "X-Men." “No, I love my job. And I love Wolverine,” Jackman reacted immediately when the interviewer Chris Wallace on 'Who's talking' asked, “Over the years people have wondered, did he juice? Did he take steroids?”
'I've eaten more chickens'
"I got to be careful what I say here, but I had been told anecdotally what the side effects are of that. And I was like, "I don't love it that much." So no, I just did it the old-school way,' he chuckled. He then went ahead cracking jokes, as he further added, "I've eaten more chickens - I'm so sorry to all the vegans and vegetarians and to the chickens of the world... Literally, the karma is not good for me. If the deity has anything related to chickens, I'm in trouble.'''
'I've learned that it takes time'
Jackman, who last donned his claws in 2017's Logan, told Wallace, "I'm not doing any other work. I'm going to be with my family and train. That's going to be my job for six months," Daily Mail reported. He then said, "My falsetto is not as strong as it used to be, and I put that down directly to some of the growlings and yelling I did."
He also credited his current Broadway lead role in The Music Man for helping him maintain his physical fitness. "And I'm really fit right now," Jackman said. "There's one thing that about eight shows a week being on Broadway singing and dancing is I'm fit. So I'm healthy. I have a good place to start. I've learned you can't rush it," adding, "I've learned that it takes time."
