'My 600-Lb Life' star Dolly Martinez, 30, dies after being in the hospital ‘fighting for her life’
Dolly Martinez, the star of Season 10 of 'My 600-Lb Life,' passed away at age 30. Her sister, Lindsey Cooper, shared the news on Facebook on Saturday. As of this writing, her family has not revealed the cause of death. Earlier in the day, Lindsey had shared an update on Dolly's health with her followers and well-wishers on Facebook. "Today is national siblings day and it for sure was a hard one. I haven’t made any post or let many ppl know, but my sister Dolly is in the hospital and is fighting for her life. At this time I ask for prayers and privacy as we as a family navigate through this hard time."
She continued, "It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beautiful sister, Dolly. Dolly had the brightest personality she could light up any room with her laughter, her kindness, and her loving spirit. She had a way of making everyone feel special, and her warmth will stay with us forever. While our hearts are broken here, I find comfort in knowing she is now reunited with our dad in heaven. I can only imagine the joy of that reunion. Rest peacefully, Dolly. You will always be loved, always be missed, and never forgotten," the post read. Dolly is the latest star of the weight-loss reality series to have passed away. Charity Pierce, Pauline Potter, Latonya Pottain, Gina Krasley, Larry Myers Jr., Destinee Lashaee, and Angela Gutierrez have all died in recent years.
The reality series, 'My 600-lb Life, ' documents the challenges faced by morbidly obese individuals weighing over 600 lbs. Each episode focuses on a single individual and follows their life over the course of one year. Dolly, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, appeared on the reality series at age 25. Her episode (#12), titled 'Dolly's Journey,' aired on January 19, 2022, on the TLC network. At the start of the series, she weighed 593.2 pounds (269.1 kg). In the episode, Dolly shed light on her turbulent childhood. Her mother was a massage therapist and a hospice caregiver, while her father was a drug addict. He left the family when Dolly was two years old, and the young girl coped with her father's absence by turning to food.
During her stint on the show, Dolly gave an honest insight into her struggles with food addiction and mental health. "The only thing powerful enough to distract me from darker thoughts is food," she shared before adding. "Food is my go-to drug that takes my pain away. ... Food is more than just a pleasure. It's my reason for existing." She even moved to Houston to be closer to the bariatric surgeon, Younan Nowzaradan, also known as 'Dr. Now, who oversaw people's weight-loss journeys on the reality show? Dolly left the TLC series weighing 552.8 pounds (250.7 kg). In total, she lost 40.4 pounds (18.3 kg), but didn't qualify for weight loss surgery at the time.
