LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 5 aired on HBO on July 14, 2024. The enthralling episode was all about dealing with the events of Battle at Rook's Rest and looking ahead at more epic battles between the Greens and Blacks.

The episode saw Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) take over as the Prince Regent for the Greens who are now without their King Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) for the time being as he suffers burns and broken bones.

The Blacks have a lot to do after the death of Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) as Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and Jacerys Velaryon (Harry Collett) are now contemplating the use of unused dragons to take on the might of Vhagar.

The episode had a lot of Easter eggs that the show's makers carefully placed to provide the audience with a lot to chew on. Here are some of those easter eggs that you might have missed.

Corlys as the Hand of the Queen

Colrys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) is dealing with the grief of losing his wife in the episode when Rhaenyra Targaryen sends Baela Targaryen (Bethany Antonia) to convince him to be the Hand of the Queen going forward.

As per 'Fire and Blood', he will eventually agree to be the Hand of the Queen and that will be a major turning point in the war as the man who is a veteran of many battles will launch an all-out attack on King's Landing for the Queen and get Rhaenyra to the top.

Respecting a dead dragon's skull

In the background of a conversation between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), we see the head of the dragon Meraxes placed respectfully in the background.

The shot comes after Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel) parades the slain dragon Meleys on the streets of King's Landing drawing the ire of the small folk who consider dragons as Gods.

Dead dragons are supposed to be respected and honored and the treatment of Meleys could be the reason for the downfall of the Greens.

Keeping Alicent away from war

Criston Cole votes for Aemond Targaryen in 'House of the Dragon' (@hbo)

Criston Cole votes against Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and chooses Aemond Targaryen as the Prince Regent. His rationale behind doing this is to keep Alicent away from all the destruction that is going to follow.

In 'Fire and Blood', it does come true as Alicent's involvement with the war decreases while she loses all her children to the war. She outlives all her children and survives the war to eventually die from Winter Fever later.

Royal food against the small folk's food

The small folk get very little to eat in 'House of the Dragon' (@hbo)

The episode draws a huge comparison between the food eaten by the royals and the small folk. The small folk are barely getting anything to eat while the royals like Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) have a lot of options to feast upon.

The frustrations of the small folk will become a huge factor in the fall of the King's Landing when Rhaenyra becomes the queen and later when the reign of Rhaenyra Targaryen falls too.

Eyrie

We see Eyrie and Lady Jeyne Arryn (Amanda Collin) who are playing host to Rhaena Targaryen (Phoebe Campbell) in the show. Eyrie plays a key role in the show and also in 'Game of Thrones'.

In George R R Martin's world, the location plays an important role as Eyrie is where Robert Baratheon met Eddard Stark when they were both young and became friends. Later they would lead a huge rebellion.
