LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 3 aired on HBO on June 30, 2024. The episode builds an intriguing web of narrative with its characters intricately placed as a conflict takes place between two factions of the Targaryen house.
Episode 3 touches upon the relationship between Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell). The two characters are brothers who have had a tumultuous relationship as Aegon always likes to play around with Aemond who is different from his brothers in terms of his conduct and behavior.
Aemond however is arguably the ace in the pack of the Greens as he is one of the most skilled warriors and also rides the biggest dragon in the seven Kingdoms in Vhagar.
Is Aegon jealous of Aemond?
A moment in the third episode showed that there is an element of insecurity in Aegon when it comes to Aemond. Aegon is ready to fly out on his dragon Sunfyre and accompany Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel) into battle.
Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) wants Aegon to stay here and plays a clever card as he informs Aegon that people in King's Landing are happy about him flying out so Aemond and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) can rule in his absence.
Aegon decides to delay his foray into the war and even rewards Larys Strong. He then goes to the brothel where he finds Aemond with Madam Sylvi (Michelle Bonnard).
Aemond is pushed to the brink many times raising suspicions among viewers about whether Aemond eventually betrays Aegon.
Does Aemond betray Aegon in 'House of the Dragon'?
Aemond's character has been built similar to that of Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith). They are both unpredictable and capable of letting their tempers get the better of them. Many would argue that both Daemon and Aaemond are more capable than their brothers and suited to become Kings. Both also ride dangerous dragons and can easily usurp the King.
In 'Fire and Blood', Aemond never betrays his brother Aegon despite having many opportunities. Similar to Daemon, he has the quality of being loyal to his brother unconditionally. He doesn't agree with his brother but continues to stand right by his side even giving his life for Aegon as he and Daemon kill each other.
He does make the decisions for some time in the absence of his brother when Aegon gets injured after the Battle at Rook's Rest.
