'House of the Dragon' Season 2 debunks major 'who's your daddy' fan theory
Contains spoilers and speculation
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 4 streamed on HBO on July 7, 2024. The exhilarating episode featured an epic battle and elevated the second season to another level altogether. It featured a fierce battle in which Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) and Meleys were killed, and Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) hurt his brother, King Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney).
In the lead-up to this battle, we witnessed the complex interpersonal relationships between the characters, particularly between the brothers. In the second episode, Aemond unleashed years of frustration against Aegon on the battlefield.
Fans who have read the source material for 'House of the Dragon', George RR Martin's 'Fire and Blood' have suspected another contentious relationship in the Targaryen family. The rumored relationship between Aemond and Helaena Targaryen (Phia Saban). It was even suspected that Aemond was the father of Helaena's children.
Is Aemond the father of Helaena's children?
The first season did fuel the rumors when Aemond got aggressive when he saw Jacaerys Velaryon (Harry Collett) dancing with Helaena. This season however seems to be quashing those rumors with the sequence of events.
Aemond has always been nicer and more polite with Helaena in the book and the show but it seems that the makers have decided to not touch the dynamic between the two characters.
When Helaena loses her child during Blood and Cheese early in the season, Aegon is devastated at the loss and reacts emotionally. Helaena too looks like she is a broken mother and while there aren't many interactions between them. We see them exchange a glimpse of grief.
Aemond on the other hand barely shows any emotion even when he visits Madam Sylvi (Michelle Bonnard), in front of whom he is usually very honest and vulnerable.
His only reaction to the event was to be proud that his uncle Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) was afraid of fighting him directly and sent assassins instead.
Can we see Helaena and Aemond involved later in 'House of the Dragon'?
Now that Aegon is injured for a while, there might be a chance that the makers explore the romance between Aemond and Helaena. Although, if the book is to be believed, both characters are expected to take a different course.
Aemond is going to head to Harrenhal where he will try to fight his uncle Daemon. In the book, Aemond has a romantic relationship with Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin) who is a wet nurse in Harrenhal.
Helaena on the other hand will slip further into depression after the loss of her child and will ultimately end up taking her life which will incite the small folk of King's Landing to lead a rebellion against Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy).
