Spoiler alert for 'Homeland' Season 8 Episode 1 'Deception Indicated'

'Homeland' Season 8 got up and running with a scintillating start in 'Deception Indicated'. Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is still in trauma from her time as a captive of the Russian gulag, but that doesn't stop her from jumping back into the middle of the action.

She is backed heavily by her mentor, Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) to deliver. The season opener, in many ways, puts Carrie in Nicholas Brody's (Damian Lewis) shoes as she is deemed compromised and unstable.

Showtime released the promo of the second episode, 'Catch and Release' earlier this week. You can watch the video here:

The clip sees the return of Numan Acar as Haissam Haqqani, the Taliban leader, while Carrie is seen trying to convince Abdul Qadir G'ulom (Mohammad Bakri) to retract the statement of not releasing the war prisoners and work on the peace settlement.

The official synopsis doesn't hint at much: "Carrie reconnects with an old ally. Tasneem seeks counsel. Saul finds hope."

Carrie is the crusader and that is established from the start. The bigger question is how long can she be pushed to deliver before it reaches the time where she can't piece herself back together?

That she sees one of the Russians, Yevgeny Gromo (Costa Ronin), just adds to the fuzzy memories where she begs him to not leave his side. For now, it's two missions for Carrie, and one of them is reconstructing her broken flashes of memory. Whether she's turned or not is a question only the final season will answer.

'Catch and Release' is written by Patrick Harbinson, Chip Johannessen and Leslie Linka Glatter. It stars Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin, Maury Sterling, Linus Roache, Costa Ronin, Nimrat Kaur and Numan Acar.

'Homeland' Season 8 premieres on February 9 at 9 pm ET/PT on Showtime.
