Here's how much 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' needs to earn at box office to break-even amid DC shake-up
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA : 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' is being released while DC is undergoing a makeover of sorts. The original DCEU franchise may end in 2023 with the release of 'Superman: Legacy' in 2025 and the beginning of DC Studios' new DC Universe. This raises serious doubts about the box office success of the upcoming movie and the entire DC 2023 movie schedule.
The sequel features Zachary Levi, Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, Rachel Zegler and Djimon Hounsou among others. Based on a screenplay by Chris Morgan and Henry Gayden, David F Sandberg is back in charge of directing.

'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' Budget
'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' reportedly had a $125M budget, according to Rolling Stone. As compared to massive superhero movies such as 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' or 'Justice League', both of which cost more than $200M, the first 'Shazam!' had an estimated budget of $90M, modest in comparison. While 'Shazam!' was more of an origin story, in which the action was more like an epilogue, 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' is a rip-roaring superhero flick that has three villains, the Daughters of Atlas, and follows the Shazam Family of superheroes as a whole. This explains the difference in the budget between the first movie and the sequel.
How much does 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' have to make at the box office?
Typically, marketing expenses are not included in reported budgets. Making a movie's original budget back is therefore insufficient for it to at least break-even. It must earn at least 2.5 times that amount. 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' needs to earn at least $312.5M to break-even. The first 'Shazam!' made $366 million, which was more than 3.5 times the initial budget. Adding the movie's figures to the upcoming DC film's budget would result in a $450M box office collection, which would be fantastic for the sequel's success.
