Kevin Costner proves that love knows no bounds, embraces fatherhood with 7 children from 3 women
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kevin Costner is a family man, who cherishes his seven children from three different women. Despite a huge age gap between the first set of three children from the last three, the ‘Yellowstone’ star has managed to keep mutual peace and respect among the siblings.
In 2020, ‘The Bodyguard’ actor told People, “I'm really comfortable with my family. I'm really comfortable with my children. Our house is like a river: You've just got to get into the flow of it ... And whatever you thought it was going to be, maybe it still can, but it's going to have to work with what the day brings.”

Kevin Costner's children
As per reports, Costner met his first wife Cindy Silva at California State University. At the time, both were students. The pair were soon in love and eventually in 1978, they said “I do” to each other. The duo also became parents to three children as they welcomed Annie Costner in April 1984, Lily Costner in August 1986, and Joe Costner in January 1988.
Costner and Silva were said to be very much in love but things went south in their relationship when rumors began to float that he was having an affair on the set of ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ in 1990. Four years later, they divorced each other. A joint statement by then at the time said that the two had “amicably resolved all issues regarding our children and financial affairs and a full marital settlement has been reached.”
Following his divorce, reports said Costner got involved with Pittsburgh Steelers heiress Bridget Rooney. The two also had a child together named Liam in 1996. Initially, the 68-year-old apparently did not accept the boy as his son but after a paternity test insistence by Rooney, he acknowledged him as his child. But Costner and Rooney’s relationship did go forward and she went on to tie the knot with billionaire William Koch in 2005.
'I was not going to miss out on love'
In 2003, Costner got engaged to his second wife Christine Baumgartner, and a year later, they exchanged vows. After which, the ‘Dances with Wolves’ star went on to become a father thrice. He and his present wife are parents to the 15-year-old Cayden Wyatt Costner, 14-year-old Hayes Logan Costner, and Grace Avery Costner, 12.
Reportedly, the Academy Awards winner was afraid to have more children with the former model. But in 2008, he reportedly shared, “Christine wanted a child, but I was afraid I couldn't be an effective father. [One day] I woke up and thought, 'Am I going to lose a beautiful woman who is willing to be with me to my very last breath because I am afraid to say yes to a child?' That's all it took. ... I decided that I was not going to miss out on love.”
He also added at the time, “I hope I have as much energy for Cayden as I had for my first. My fundamental fear is that my new baby, someone [else] will raise him, meaning that my life will end prematurely. I won't get to coach him in what I think it is to be a man. I'd like to be the person that tells him about life.”
'His younger kids really adore his older kids'
Besides, Costner had once proudly stated, “You get to play heroes in the movies, but there’s a moment in time where you’re just a father and you get to go home. I have played two roles in my life, one I get paid to do, which is the movies, and the other one is being a father, for which I’ll be rewarded my whole life,” as reported by Closer Weekly.
John Coinman, Kevin’s bandmate in their group Modern West, believes he’s the best father as he added, “He was raised with those strong family and moral values. He has a great sense of humor about himself and about the world, and he’s a great father. His younger kids really adore his older kids, and he’s been able to incorporate both families together.”
