'Run' Episode 2: Driven by different desires, will Ruby and Billy ever find an escape in each other?
Former college sweethearts Ruby Richardson (Merrit Wever) and Billy Johnson (Domhall Gleeson) left everything behind and decided to run away, possibly to a neverland on receiving the text "RUN" from each other.
However, their dreams from the past soon begin to wear off as the harsh reality of adulthood begins to creep in. The premiere episode of HBO's latest 'Run' features Billy and Ruby, two adults who board the first train to Chicago from New York in the pursuit of something that neither is sure of.
While the previous episode hinted at trouble unfolding in their reconciled relationship, Episode 2 dives deep into each other's desires, making their worst fears come true.
Billy's flashback reveals that he approached Ruby hoping to achieve all the relations his partner lacked. Little did he know it was a far fetched dream as Ruby has only one thing one mind, that is some "wild sex".
Despite a lot of struggle in a cramped up train compartment, Ruby and Billy try to make the whoopee. However, the intimate act soon comes to a halt when Billy realizes what he wished from Ruby stretches way beyond a few minutes of wild sex.
Ruby’s intentions with Billy also become clear when she forcefully brings another man into her room, hoping to make the other jealous and eventually give in to the dirty desires.
Episode 2 of ‘Run’ doesn’t offer much besides a little flashback that fills the backstory, explaining the motive behind Billy’s latest adventure and an insight into Ruby’s train of thoughts that is running high on sex.
However, what it does tell us is that their collective idea may soon see an end owing to their drastically different perception of life, love, and lovemaking.
But, the episode ends with a rather fascinating twist as Ruby’s husband comes to learn about her urge to abandon her family and we need to wait and watch how the consequences of her actions are going to influence the choices she is going to further make, essentially concerning Billy.
Billy comes across as an underconfident individual who is filled with insecurities. Although Ruby also suffers from the latter aspect, she doesn't relapse into it, unlike Billy and chooses to get away with it each time by avoiding confrontation.
Considering how the two fall nearly on either end of the spectrum, we could look forward to more of chaos and drama if they decide to navigate together challenges life has recently thrown at them.
'Run' airs on Sundays on HBO.
